Visit www.rometotalrealism.org to get, and i do not know if you need to back up the original game, you are best of asking on their forums at the link i gave you.

At the RTR site, it tells you to uninstall and reinstall your RTW anyway. To make sure you don't have any other modifications on it. All you have to do is go to the link Lusted provided and click on the download link at the RTR page. From there you will have instuctions to follow.

Well, you have 2 options.
1. Make a copy of your original RTW folder before installing RTR. Then you will have an RTR folder and a vanilla folder. Of course, this takes up disk space and is optional.
2. Just back up your vanila saved games. Go to Rome Total War/Saves and copy the ones you want to keep.
