What do you think about athiests?

I myself am an athiest, who unfortunately had to go to a catholic school (fml ), but I wanted to see what the average thiest's opinion of the average athiest is - like; do you HATE them? think they are EVIL? believe they must repent! otherwise they risk being constantly annoyed by theists claiming that their gonna burn in hell?. Please, im anxious to hear your opinions. And athiests - vice-versa (your opinion of the average NON FUNDAMENTALIST-TO-WHATEVER-RELIGION-THEY-BELONG-TO THEISTS!).

See, I don´t care if someone is an atheist. He chose his way of life, and while I do think he is wrong, I have no problem with it. Unless he starts a discussion with me about it, I don´t even mention it.

And it is not like Atheists are the poor guys, it is more likely that many Atheists constantly bully theists. In my school we had suicide cases because of that.

I actually don´t think that an atheist who always lead an honest life following a good moral code is thrown in hell, I don´t think god would hold a grudge against someone "good" for something like that.

Also, I think it was a good thing for you to go to a catholic school - It shaped your personality, and lead you to the path you think to be right at the moment, even if it isn´t the one the school tought.

See, I don't care if someone believes. I'm an athEIst, but I do understand if someone needs religion in their life, and won't hate them for it? Don't like it when they think that only their way of thinking is right though.

Why would anybody believe in ANYTHING if they didn't think it was the right thing to believe in?

I don't judge people by what they don't believe, I judge them by their beliefs.

If someone has an opinion about 'atheists' or 'theists' then they aren't really having any useful parameters for any kind 'opinion making process'. The only thing you can say about theists is that they believe in some kind of god or several, the only thing you can say about atheists is that they don't. If you have some kind of complicated opinion about someone based simply on that criteria then you're an ass, and an idiot.

So in other words: Every theist is judged by you about his belief, and since it is no secret that you think their believes are wrong you have a serious grudge against every theist.

This is the exact type of human being, being atheist or theist, which I don´t like and which is - no matter what - wrong, at least in my opinion.

Yes I do judge theists on their view of god/gods/goddesses and yes I do disagree with that pre-supposition. Do I automatically dislike or hold a grudge against said theist? NO.

I judge a theist in the exact same way I judge an atheist: do they have good morals, are they polite, can they support their world-view logically, who do they hate and why, I judge individuals artistic tastes, I judge people on their scientific knowledge, are they obnoxious, excessively self-righteous etc.

I hold grudges agaisnt people I consider :wub:s, that's all.

No, I am afraid I can just judge it out of my personal experience. I am ok with anyone who thinks otherwise, I want it to be otherwise, but I my experience is that way.

This is, of course, very subjective and by no mean it applies to every atheist.

I'm an atheist who was lucky enough to go to a catholic school instead of the government one and I credit that for why I get to do things like post on TWC off and on all day while still making money A pointless religion class once a day for an hour and a few masses are worth the far better education.

I don't have anything against other people believing whatever they want as long as they don't bother me with it. Leave me to my belief I leave you to yours and we all get along just fine. One day we'll all figure out the answer, until then it's all just mental :wub:.

This is more relevant to a philosophical forum I used to use, but anyway;

As a non-believer my only criticism is directed toward certain individuals. It is not about atheism, but rather their attitude. It is only natural to preach one's religion, or in the atheist case, to say there is no god. But some individuals, mostly younger folk, take it to the extreme, where they not only criticize religions but take every opportunity to do so and in the process needlessly antagonize theists. Such people are the equivalent of door-to-door Jehovahs witnesses, and just like those ladies, their actions can be detrimental to their cause. Don't wage a crusade on religion, especially if you don't even bring thoroughly examined logical arguments to their door.

If a priest rushes into your laboratory and yells "You are going to hell!", are you going to sit down and analyze your beliefs or make him leave?
