The stars of the first installment are expected to make a comeback next year in August, alongside a couple of other () action stars. Jean Claude Van Damme is going to be cast as a villain while Chuck Norris' part remains undisclosed for now. Most likely that he will also end up as one of the bad guys but who knows... Stallone also mutters something about Nicolas Cage's possible involvement.

Simon West will be the new director and the script will allow Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis to play bigger roles in this one.

He's the smooth kind of action star instead of the more gritty action. Watch Face-Off sometime.
One thing is for certain: the more profoundly baffled you have been in your life, the more open your mind becomes to new ideas.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

A pretty inspired move would be to cast Cage as a villainous version of his role from Lord of War, where he portrayed a Russian arms dealer. He was great in that movie.

Face-Off is my fav Nicholas movie .
And this movie is not about smoothness ( at least it shouldn't not be when you have Rambo,Conan,Punisher etc )

I suppose I won't mind Cage among the rest of them. Sounds like it's going to be fun.

Hiring more stars instead of tightening the cast seems like a mistake. Instead of wasting the budget cramming the screen with retirement-age stars, they should spend it on actually making a good action movie.

This is the trend recently in Hollywood:
    1. Cram your movie with a bunch of familiar faces.
    2. ???
    3. Profit!

worked for the Oceans (11,12,13) series. Those made nice big profits even though they were very thin on plot.

Oceans 11 was pretty good as far as movies go though.

Any case: you don't go to the expendables and expect Gladiator, you go to see macho men tearing ass.

Hopefully the next one will have less sappy plot and more ass tearing.

That sounds more like a gay porno than an action film, well the wrong type of action.

The entire point of the Expendables is cramming as much aged action stars in as possible.
So what's this about plot and story? Shenanigans, I tell you!
Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

Exactly, how can anyone not know that it was meant as a "get together to remember the good old times"-film for almost retired action stars.

The Expendables delivered what it promised.

You mean subpar action sequences not even comparable to the good 80s flicks it was trying to emulate?

Its like they spent the entire budget on getting the stars and ran out of money for things like script writers, explosions and good camera work. I am as much of a fan of mindless action so long as it is good which people like Micheal bay excel at, but seriously even the action wasn't all that impressive.

It was about a bunch of aged stars throwing tacky one liners and showing that they can still lift weights while flexing for 30 minutes on screen. The whole thing felt like a Steven Seagal direct to dvd action flick. I enjoyed watching them on screen playing off eachother, but that was the only thing that the movie had going for it (well that and mickey rourke completely stealing the show).

If epic-ness was what they were aiming for by stuffing a bunch of old action heroes together, then they failed miserably.

What did it deliver on? Shaky-cam ruined the action, the villain sucked, the whole thing was flat out boring.

They managed to make constant explosions boring.
