    Icon9 Squalor

After playing Medival 2 for a long time, I thought I might try playing rome again.
I played as the seleucian empire and almost at the very start of the game i were allready attacked from all sides. But in the end I were victorous, now i controlled the entire east. But when my empire gets bigger, thats when the started to happend. My archnemesis in rome and medival came, squalor. after like... 80 turns or something nearly all of my cities had 100% squalor and started rioting every turn, so i had to use ALL my money on repairing and soldiers to guard the my cities instead of sending them to the battlefield!

So what can I do to stop this, because this is normally the reason why I give up on Rome, and even though all my building are fully upgraded they still riot. Please help!
    (Sorry for the bad english)

let the cities revolt and then take them back and exterminate. One at a time.

no, it's very annoying and boring to do this every 10 turns or so in every city; it is also retarded
if you don't want to install a big mod like RS2, RTR, EB, XGM, XC etc. (which besides the total conversion of the game fixes the squalor exaggeration) you can try this mini-mod instead : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...hlight=squalor

I would just try to keep pop growth at 8% MAX on the "settlement details screen". (Squalor at 24,000 is 8%, so 0% growth, so no unhappy cities!)

I modded the water treatment buildings to give bigger bonuses. I think the last one gives 80% Public Health now.

How do you do this? I'm looking through the game files at the moment but I got distracted by watching all of the intro clips

Its in one of the building files (export_descr_buildings). You want to change population_health_bonus bonus #. Each point is 5% Public Health, so putting population_health_bonus bonus 10 will give 50% Public Health.

The amount you get from a building is the total from that line of buildings. For example, if you build the first of the water treatment buildings, you get 5% Public Health. If you upgrade to the next one, which gives 10% Public Health, you won't get an extra 10% for building it. Your total for the water treatment buildings will be 10%, so upgrading adds an extra 5%. I changed the final of those buildings to give 80%, so when it's built the water treatment line of buildings will be contributing 80% towards my Public Health, despite all of them being built.

I hope that wasn't too complicated, and sorry if you already knew it. Took me ages to realise that was how the buildings worked.

I always found that if you upgraded the sewers or water treatment buildings as a priority then squallor would be less of a problem even in very large settlements.

Some temples may also give a health bonus depending upon the faction you play.

I should probably do this, it will make it so much easier to put down the revolts etc.

I love Vanilla RTW, I've never really found a mod that improves it without changing it too much. I've played EB but I didn't really like it, much too fiddly for me; I just want to be able to boot up RTW and quickly crush some peasants.

I think almost every aspect of that game on the campaign map should be changed .
