    Default Ineligible for all offices?

I came back after a long pause after playing RTR 6. Currently, I am playing as Rome and slowly expanding into Sicily. However, I do have a problem. All the family youth 'gain' the trait 'ineligible for all offices' after only a few years and are then completely useless while still consuming income. Why do they gain this trait and do I prevent it? I am currently building an academy in Roma where I parked all the wasted youth.

unfortunately yes, they must be totally useless for five years, or twenty turns depending on how one counts. though they aren't entirely useless, they still make a strong cavalry unit if they're serving under a consul or praetor

Yeah. You can use them as Tribunes under command of a Consul and hope they died gloriously in cavalry charge to be later replaced by more useful family members.

Or you could just admit defeat and give up the campaign straight away. Same result, just less time consuming

The Roman Leadership feature highlight explains it all.

haha seek out enemy spearmen on the battle field. Charge! If they see themselves riding in green fields with the sun on their backs, tell them not to fear for they are in Elysium, and they are alread dead
