    Default Cheats addiction

Hey first thing i think i need to say is that this is an amazing mod that is not only fun to play, realistic but it is also very eductional i find, one of the best mods in the whole totalwar series i think

but i have an issue with it, i am a cheater lol. i can't help it, i say to myself that i will do it properly this time and then i go into it and its not that i find it goes too slow or anything, i enjoy that it is just that i get into debt so quickly and that things can cost so much. i know that it is lazy of me but it is hard to ignore the console when you know that all you have to do is put in some code to win a battle or earn loads of cash to gain full stacks early on.

how do you get out of a habbit like this since i feel as if its ruining my enjoyment with eb.
i know it seems dumb but it is really getting annoying, i almost wish i never found it.

Hm, very interesting. The only way I know of is just..... stopping it. Realize that without a doubt, not cheating will enhance the gaming experience many-fold, and let that be your inspiration. After all, the point of playing games is to enjoy and have fun, and most people find not cheating is what allows for the challenge which leads to opportunities to overcome them and ultimately satisfaction. That being said, if cheating is how you have fun with the game, then knock yourself out. But since you've come asking for help, I think you know deep down it's better on the light side.

You are only cheating yourself out of a challenging game.

Currently I am trying to resist reloading a saved game if events go against me. Makes you pay attention to everything!!!!!

    Cheating is simply lame.

If you can't manage a campaign, try an easier difficulty level or switch factions. Some (Pontos, Hayasdan) are very difficult, some (Rome, Carthage, Ptolemaoi) fairly easy.

If you cheat, you get 1% of the challenge and 1% of fun.

if you're going into debt, don't worry. that's typically what will happen in the first stages of a campaign on one of the medium/harder factions.

There really is no way other than just stopping it. The cheats can be useful for a roleplay or bug-fixing role such as if you CTD every time you play a battle where you got a heroic victory (i.e. you'd lose if auto-calcing). If you're going to use them, set rules for yourself, then it will be easier to stop using them entirely.

Well, one thing you could try would be to follow the instructions here to enable the Console in vista, but simply delete the input for the Console. No idea if it would crash the game or anything, but if it worked you simply wouldn't be able to open the Console in-game without restoring the original file.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

And I feel bad about using forced diplomacy sometimes!

I use it for two purposes only:

    1) To get a peace treaty from an enemy I badly battered.
    2) To get the AI to accept one million minai I give them in order to boost their performance :-)

I only use toggle_fow to post screens on campaign progress/post your empire like threads.

toggle_fow & force diplomacy for a more realistic game w/o genocide. The AI is just relentless and I'll eventually end up with 4-5 giant empires engaged in an endless unfun grind-fest.

auto_win for if I get 2 CTDs on the same battle. I'll usually give it one more shot to see if the CTD was an isolated occurrence. It's the same reason I always save before a battle.

add_money/add_population for AI factions if it looks like they're on the ropes.

add_ancillary/give_trait to give a select few FMs ancillaries for RP purposes - Roman offices/governorships, Seleukid satrapies, chirurgens to represent logistical staff for professional armies.

Other than those I try to avoid cheats. When I cheat it's to make the game more fun/challenging not less. When I play Rome, I want Carthage to be a challenge so I'll give them men and money, or even settlements, to have a real enemy to fight. In a similar vein I'll use FD to enforce a peace (usually by forcing a Protectorate but rarely for more than a handful of turns.)

In my opinion you should cheat away if it's what you want. It's a single player game so who cares if you cheat?

You could use this one to change the ~ key to a key not available on your keyboard. (I could not find it in the eb folder, yet it exist in the original data folder. So I don't know if this will work. Perhaps you could move the file, but I don't know.).

I feel for you. I was such an addict some years ago. what actually worked for me was that I realized that I am quite lame if I need cheats to defeat TW AI when I understood that, it was done and done. now I use force diplomacy and cheats only to ensure proper campaign and to boost poor AI performance, thus making game even more challenging (though even that does not satisfy me presently ) and now my constant endevour is to find better AI. Alex.exe was my latest find, but even that AI needs cheating and force-diplomacy....

I dunno if you have empire, but play that for a while, there's no cheat console in that one (at least not that I know of) so you'll learn the fun of playing without cheats

This is for the originator of this thread. Don't listen to these ignorant fools. In fact, what I'd recommend is you at least double--nay, triple the amount of cheating you do. Trust me. I have a great friend who is the cheater type, much like yourself, and his cure is simply more and more cheats. You'll just cheat yourself to a whole new world, a world in which your sheer riches, invincibility, speed, and unlimited manpower will make you an in-game god...
