Being like most TWC peoples, I was reading up on my history today. While reading about the Austrian Monarchy, i noticed this page: http://sga.monarchisten.org/mitteleuropa.html
This had been a movement to unify the small central European countries of: Austria, Czech Slovakia, Hungary Slovenia and Croatia under the Austrian flag. Most notably the movement calls for a return of Monarchy.
The last crown prince of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire died a few months ago. He was well-renowned for not supporting the annexation of Austria by Hitler. For this he was sentenced to death by Hitler himself. Otto von Habsburg saved thousands of Austrian Jews and others who would have been killed by Hitler, so he is well liked in Europe now.
His death rekindled the movement further for the re-unification of the Habsburg Empire, or the Black-Yellow Alliance. I don't even know what this will do to the EU.
These are their selling points:
Political reform:
This is what we really monarchists:
- Finally, the referendum form of government!
With the abolition of the republic by the people:
- Monarch should order mandatory referendums may
- Non-white voters and a voice direct posting of content mandatary under non-voters by the monarch
- Emergency brake: monarch is by parliamentary 2/3-majority may be forced to abdicate, the throne then enters into force
- Removal without replacement of party and press subsidies from taxpayers' money - hundreds of millions of euros every year in times of crisis!
I'm don't live Europe, so this is only what I read, but I am Hungarian so this interests me. Is this a load of barnacles or in any way a serious movement. I myself think unifying these small nations may be a good thing for their economies and voice in government, but restitution of a single monarchy seems far fetched. I'm not sure if mentioning this alone will give me a lot of flak in the TWC community, but I wanted to hear the views of people from those places who understand it better. If the link I posted is completely ridiculous I will simply delete this thread all together.
Are there any movements in Europe like this that are serious?
