    Icon5 Curious about Factions.

It's been a few years since I played Rome Total War, I went off to play Medieval II Total War and Empire.

After a while, the yearn for the antiquity of the Romans, Gauls and all made me digging through the box to look for my copy of Rome Total War after returning home breifly before going back to uni.

I've been looking about through different mods, and I noticed that RTW has changed, I remembered the previous version (gold?) included a much larger map, which included the Seleciuds, Parthian and Bactrian Empires. However, the RTR VII has removed those eastern factions.
As well as that, are the Thracians still available as a faction? I somehow only find the Getai in their areas.

Just curious to ask, is it true they removed them? I really liked playing as the Parthians, and looking at the weak vulnerable infantry of the east, you could practically mow them down line by line...

I basically wonder what all of you feel?
I can't wait to play RTW again!

The entire RTRVII series has been based around a very localized campaign, and we think it distinguished RTR from other RTW mods that dont usually take this approach. The focused approach to the campaign map along with the countless changes to the mechanics of RTW really make RTRVII something special.

If you're looking for Parthians and Gauls may I suggest Roma Surrectum 2? I say you give RTRVII as shot, then if you decided that you dont like you can move on to another mod .

    Thanks for the reply!

So RTRVII I guess is a smaller, but more focused mod on the Western Europe, Balkans and North Africa, I suppose?
I did check it out, I rather liked the detail it had on the Greek States, much more variety!

Roma Surrectum? I actually did consider it, but I'm sort of like a history buff, I want to find one with high historical accuracy, hence I narrowed my choices down to Europa Barbarom and RTR VII.
    What do you guys think?

By the way DukeCanada, what mods would you recommend? Just curious to ask, I haven;t played in quite a while, and I'm also saving money for Shogun...

Roma Surrectum is for some 80-90% historically accurate, and where it isn't it's because of gameplay features rather than pure design. I really do suggest it
Europa Barbarorum is a mod everyone should try at least once in his/her life. Period.

If I may, Rise of Persia and ChivalryTW for respectively the pre and post-Roman eras are very good. INVASIO BARBARORVM is great for a BI-era minded player, and Fourth Age is the best LOTR mod out there, imo.

Definitely try Roma Surrectum 2, especially if you like the Seleucid/Parthian/Ptolemite wars. And another wonderful mod you should try is Viking Invasion II, which is about, well, Vikings. Invading...

If you'd really like to play it I'd suggest buying a copy of the RTW : Gold Edition. It's less then 10 euros here, and imo worth the investment due to the wide range of mods that have been made for it

In the meantime you can try RTR6, im pretty sure it doesnt require the BI expansion.

Make sure you use 6Gold, and not Platinum. Afaik Platinum does require BI to run.

guess RTR is best for Carthage/Epirus/Roman choice!? Maybe Noricum too if you plan to invade Dacia and Greece... Probably Macedon or Celtiberians as well but I think Carthage and Epirus most and you know what!? I was long waiting for this! Punic threat and Pyrrhic victories! Offtopic: Those Getae look pretty good! Interesting approach! And I haven't even installed the game yet! from what I've seen and read! Hard and Soft problems! And no money or time to solve them! A Greek tragedy I tell you! And I waited the whole year! I'll concentrate on them!

I actually played RTR6 or platinium I forgot which 2 years back in university, guess going to grad school makes me want to retrace my gaming roots! LOL
I liked it though, it was really realistic that I could only recruit certain units in a certain geographic location. Making each army I made for a certain area unique in its combination.
Honestly speaking, i don't know what version myRTW is, I come from a non english language, and it really bugs me when they translate it to something I can't translate...
They call it RTW- Honor Version. God knows what that means.... I prefer playing my games in English, thank god the patches converted mine to English...

I'm now downloading EB1.1 again from another link given by XSamatan, i just pray to God it works....
