Default Somewhat silly question about lag

Why RTRVII campaign map (not battle) is very... "laggy"? it seems when I tried to scroll across the map, it seems broken and laggy, and slow too...

the question is, actually, the battle is not laggy even on highest detail

    is there something wrong?

Scripts make the campaign map run a bit slower. Try deactivating campaign map shadows; it'll still be a bit slow but you won't have much lag while scrolling across the map any more

the best way to fix this is to upgrade PC

^I considered saying that, but I thought it was a bit cheap I myself, for example, just don't have the money for a new PC at the moment. I assume that can be the case with other people as well.

Yes but scripts are ram consuming, so turning of shadows will help only if pc has weak gpu.

Did I ever say anything that would contradict that?

What I meant was that giving an answer like "buy a better PC" is simply not a good answer to the question. People who don't have a better PC likely don't have the money or are simply not ready to buy a better PC (or better parts).

What I noticed is that I get lag when scrolling around Gaul, which is full of forests. Scrolling around Greece is smooth as anything. I suspect this is the shadows-thing.

Shadows are the about the only thing you can do to reduce lag.

hmm, about the script? do RTRVII use a lot more script than RSII : FGE? or EB? those two are running smoothly on campaign and battles.

nope, the battles actually run smoothly, even on high detail (not the highest, but allready tested on highest and it's all not too much differences).

and I played RSII smoothly without any problems poping out

and yeah, it's arround gauls, maybe something is wrong with the graphics there? or maybe I should look for the settings on campaign map?

RTRVII is at least as demanding in its script as EB - and combine that with the advanced campaign map textures and models (which EB, with all respect, does not have) and you have epic lag on old computers

hmm, maybe that's right, so RTRVII has better map textures and models compared to RSII, and script as much as EB had then?

    well, then it's quite understandable

I think your problem is caused by trees. I had similar problem on my old laptop when I played Third age total war. Woods were causing huge lags. RTR VII map has huge amount of trees

its more than likely because of the tree animations (which cannot be turned off)

oh yeah, just notice it when opening the model_strat textures

but why it must be this high-detailed? the strat models are merely small persons dont they? plus I want to ask, why put the banner? why not use vanilla-esque banners? maybe that along with trees took a lot of campaign map lag parts

I still stand by reducing shadows will make it very playable.

yeah, at least turning off camp map shadow and keeping resolution down for campaign map (for somewhat reasons - auto-detect dang, the camp map set at 2048 x 1536 x 32 (wt...), while the battle map is set at 1024 x 768 x 32)

    problem solved

Turning off shadows is generally a good way to reduce lag. Btw, I think it's really just the trees and their animations that are causing the lag if it happens during scrolling on your own turn. Due to the high resolution of the map, the proportion of forested land on screen at any time can be very high when you scroll over Gaul or central Europe.
