The Marriage of Flavia Regulus and Gnaeus Tranquillius

It is an auspicious day for the Regulus and Tranquillius family. Today, Flavia Regulus, daughter of two-time Tribune and current Praetor Lucius Titus Regulus and his wife, Valeria is to be wedded to her long-time fiance, the former Proconsul of Sicilia and current Consul Gnaeus Tranquillius, a good friend of the Regulus family and a respected Roman of the Republic. The marriage was arranged to take place in the Tempe of Venus, goddess of beauty, fertility and love. The same temple where Lucius and Valeria had their Roman marriage, over twenty years ago. Lucius wanted to have the marriage in this temple not because of its past with the Regulus family, but in hopes of Venus blessing the couple with beautiful grandchildren and a life full of love. Guards were assigned by the Senate as security during the marriage

A few horse-drawn coaches arrive, carrying the Regulus family. The first coach carries Lucius Titus Regulus with his wife, Valeria and the bride, Flavia. She is immediately escorted by a few servants and guards along with her mother to a rear chamber where she was properly dressed for the union.

The second coach opens, revealing Flavia's brother, Caelinus along with her Uncle, Marius Vitellius. Both were dressed in their Legionary armor. However, Marius wore his Centurion armor, a former rank that he held under Lucius, when the Roman was a Legate in Greece. Marius was not really Flavia's Uncle, but he had known the young woman since she was born and was a friend of both Lucius and Antonius Regulus, Flavia's deceased grandfather.

Lucius walks in with his son and Marius. His eyes catching Flavia and Valeria vanishing into a side chamber and the doors closing. He sighed heavily. Lucius was proud that his daughter was marrying a True Roman, but he was sad that it happened a few years after the premature death of her grandfather, Antonius Regulus. However, there was some good news...Flavia's Greek grandfather, Valeria's father, was supposedly arriving. His name was Aristodemos Philander of Athenai (Athens), a minor, but rather talented noble within the Republic since the Roman Invasions of the early Republic. He was an elderly man of some fifty years, the same age of Antonius Regulus if he were alive. A note had arrived, addressed to Valeria of his possible arrival by the later day.

Lucius then waited for others to arrive, hoping for other great Romans to witness such a glorious and wonderful event. He stood there in fine white robes with a crimson sash and gold trimming.

The Regulus family greets those who came, welcoming them and thanking them for their congrats.

The family of the Tranquilli arrive soon after the family Regulus. Gnaeus' brothers resplendent in their military uniform, lead the way, followed by Gnaeus' mother and twin sisters. His mother still dressed in clothes of mourning for her deceased husband and Gnaeus' sisters, wearing their wedding clothes. They were met at the entrance by Lucius.

Gnaeus Claudius Tranquillus, was the last to enter, he wore the traditional wedding attire, and had a look of happiness on his face. Walking up the steps of the temple, he found himself face to face with his future father in law, Gnaeus smiled before speaking “Ave Lucius, the gods have given us a fine day, for a marriage between our two families, this must be a good sign for the future.”

Lucius and his family greet the Tranquilli family. Lucius nods to the newly-elected Consul.

I agree, Consul. It is indeed a fine day for a Roman wedding. It should begin shortly.

Nervous and excited...how a bride should be.

Gnaeus felt exactly the Same, "Okay then Lucius, shall we proceed within?" Gnaeus smiled

Lucius nods in agreement.

All are seated for the ceremony as a Priest of Venus awaits to wed the couple. Flavia arrives fully prepared for the marriage and is escorted down the aisle by her father. After she is handed off...the soon-to-be wedded couple gathers before the altar where the wedding ceremony begins.

Aulus, having arrived earlier, remained deep in hushed conversation with several notable patricians. This was quickly becoming the most prominent event of the season.

Septimus sat up and tried to look interested.

After a long ceremony...the final words are spoken and the vows are affirmed between Flavia and Gnaeus. The Priest blesses them under the altar to Venus. Finally the ceremony ends and the couple is proclaimed to the gathered crowd. The newly wedded couple of Gnaeus and Flavia Tranquillius.

Gnaeus smiles, this had been one of the happiest days of his life, and as the couple was proclaimed to the crowd, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride.

The Regulus family congratulates the newly married couple. Roman Legionnaires arrive to escort the couple now. Flavia was very happy indeed...happy to have found a good man and Roman to marry.
