    Default New Graphics Card

Okay, I got a new graphics card, but I'm having some trouble. I installed all the stuff except for the drivers because you have to put in the video card. Now, when I do put in the video card, I know not to plug the monitor into that first because the drivers aren't installed yet, so I keep it in the other card and try to install, but the screen is all gray and stuff. So I was wondering if someone could make tell me exactly what to do, basicly directions.

    Thanks in advance,
    Adnan

Just hook up the card and load windows, Windows has standard video drivers so it will work. Just not too well.

Whenever I do, the screen is all blue and grey and I can't open up any windows, at all.

If you still have your old video card in, remove it. You need to go onto the system bios and manually update to run two video cards, if your mother board allows that. Windows will be able to use the new video before you get all its software onboard, its designed to do that.

My old card was an intergraded one. I just got my new 6200. My old one was an Intel Accelerated Intergraded graphics card.

So you don't have an old card, you'll need to look up the monitor to the new card instead of your mobo.

Your card should have a VGA or a DVI connection. Hook the monitor up to the video card

This seems like a very strange problem because I also have an Intel Accelerated Intergraded graphics card and when I installed my brand new GF 7900 GT PCI a few weeks ago, the screen looked fine, of course it was set at the very lowest resolution, and I was able to install the included driver from the CD with no problems what so ever.

Trajan, could you tell me what you did? Meaning the steps you took to install it?

    Thanks,
    Adnan

Well first I uninstalled my previous drivers and all things related to my old ATI card, I installed the new video card, connected the monitor to it, started my computer and installed the new drivers from the included CD and that was it.

I don't think I would have to uninstall anything for my intergraded one. Plus, when I hook up the new card, I can't see anything, no icons, no start menu. Don't know what the problem is.

That's terrible man, especially after buying a new video card. I wish I knew what your problem was so I can help you solve it. Is it possible that maybe your new video card is defective because installing it should be as easy as I installed mine since we both have an Intel integrated video card?

See if you can disable onboard graphics in BIOS, then reinstall the nVIDIA driver. Random glitches like that often happen when you didn't install driver or didn't install it right.

How do I do that? Again, sorry, I'm not computer savvy when it comes to this.

When you start your computer, a message should come up saying "Press <insert key here> to enter BIOS." Usually thats "delete", but on some computer its "Esc", or "F2". If that message don't show up just try any of those keys.

A warning though, don't randomly change stuff that you don't know about in BIOS, if you don't know what you are doing it can make your computer very unstable.

BTW not all BIOS give the option to disable onboard graphics, some just disable them automatically when a video card is inserted, so if you can't find the option just ignore that step.

But then you can still see something right? And do you get any weird lines or blocks?

If you do then its probably your graphics card, if not then its the driver.

Yup, I can still see stuff, and I can still see when I right click and bring up the little menu, then I go to properties and then change the resolution and stuff, then I can see the entire background, the only things missing are the icons and start menu, and plus, I just downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia's website, and installed them, then put in the video card.

What do you think I should do if it's defective?
