Default Questions about RTW on Mac and PC

My idiot friend recently bought himself a Macbook for uni, meaning that he's no longer able to play as many games as he'd like. We're getting Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne since those are cross compatible, but I've also found that RTW is also on Mac as well. While I don't want to play any battles against him (too easy) would it be possible for us to 'hotseat' campaigns by sending save files to one another from PC to Mac?

If not, it's no problem; my idiot brother also has a Mac (j/k Mac lovers, they look pretty at least) so we can just play on those instead. That said, it leads me to my next question; can mods be played on Macs?

got no clue, ported games like that I dont tend to play often. Since I dual boot, I have logged some games that work pretty well even on the anemic intel HD 3000 (on windows):

    Sins of a Solar empire
    RTW
    M2TW
    EU3
    IH3
Star Wars Empire at war even the mod Republic at war
    MW
    MW2

and they were all playable, although in MW2 there were some lags here and there.

Best thing that you do when you want to game on a mac is to install windows, or live happily with indie games (which I do)

off course, its called bootcamp, quite easy do it as well.

    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

    lots of info in there.

You can also run it on a VM, using virtual box (for example), its a free program, so you have windows while running your OSX, or linux or haiku....

    Nice, thanks.

I'm talking to my friend on facebook now, he just mentioned that he knows about this, but says that there's a chance that it can screw up Macs due to having two OS on it? Is this true?

I do all my modding and gaming on Windows bootcamped onto a Mac. I've had no problems to date, runs just like it being on any other PC so long as you have enough RAM

Serious? This sounds too good to be true!

So if my friend gets Bootcamp on his Mac he can install and play any game on there, provided his Mac can handle it?

Its basically partitioning the hard drive and loading the OS. Mac hardware has been able to run Windows for a few years now.

    Damn. This is pretty awesome.

Got another question though; in that video it talks about inserting a Windows disk. Since my friend already has a family PC with Windows XP (I think) can he just install it using that CD?

If it doesn't have a limit on the number of machines it can be loaded onto, sure. The limit is usually having to type in some sort of activation key. Others would know better than I since I did mine a few years back and can't even find the disk these days.

Unless you go with the uEFI program (its a EFI hack that allows windows to be installed using the USB ports, unless your friend got a mba) you have to use a disk.

as we mentioned its pretty easy, however it aint going to fly to install win xp using the OEM install that he probably have. He will need a new copy of windows for that.

The amount of RAM aint a factor per se, but 4gb is pretty standard right now. And sincerely given how that we multitask today its a good thing.

Ohh, so he can't use the same CD that he used to install XP on his PC? In that case I doubt we'll even give this a shot, since neither of us can afford £100 or more just to get a CD that will allow us to be able to game together. Thanks for the help though, appreciate it.
