Judas Maccabeus movie, by Mel Gibson

Mel Gibson, to the ire of various Jewish groups, is going to be making a movie about Judas Maccabeus.

Personally I think that his making a movie about a Jewish hero is clearly an attempt to redeem himself in a way, but I personally couldn't care less.

Instead, I am happy that our Jewish friends have given us the opportunity through their Biblical history to portray a period which is otherwise completely and utterly forgotten in history.

Hopefully he'll keep alive what he did in Passion of the Christ and have the various characters speak in their native tongues of the period!

I hope it's got a scene where Eleazar is crushed because, in his eternal wisdom, he stabbed an elephant while standing beneath it. I found that story quite amusing.

If it's anything like Apocalypto it will kick ass.

I haven't seen the passion but mostly because people who have seen it described it more as a showcase of torture than anything else.

Gibson's movies wouldn't be as good if he wasn't kind of a wierd anti social jerk who's not afraid to speak his mind (for better or worse). Think about it.

Well the Maccabean times are inter testament periods, but still an important part of the Jewish History. I alkso think their will be a torture in the movie, since really The Passion of the Christ was a war movie, in the way how it was done.

not judas
one of the reason for the anti semitism in europe is this little detail
christians were quick to identify that judas iscariot was a jew
while too ignorant to understand all other characters inculding jesus were jews too
and thus a stereotype emerged

also i doubt mel gibson feels he has anything to redeem himself over
i saw only a portion of the passion of christ and it was quite vile in my view

That would be a daring move... and if done correctly(without trying to implicitly push an agenda) one to applaud too.

Since it's Mel Gibson doing this, I'd be surprised if they didn't portray that.

mel gibson better not pull any punches; i'll be incredibly disappointed in him if he doesn't at least make it authentic like he made braveheart authentic (albeit historically inaccurate)

In what way was Braveheart authentic?

This should be interesting though. Mel Gibson is a talented director and I thoroughly enjoyed both Apocalypto and Passion of the Christ.
