    Default Egyptian cities not recruiting.

Playing as Rome one turn, I've had four captured Egyptian cities for a long time, maybe 100 GT or more. All are completely developed as huge cities.

In Alexandria I can't build the 3rd level Roman Oppidium because it says in the browser it requires weapons metal import facility, but I've built the first level metal import fac and never been offered an opportunity to build the weapons import fac. Also I've not been offered a chance to build Client/Allied status or then grant citizenship; all the browser says is not possible at this time altho the highest level palace has been built and the population is at 55K. It is an economic and fortified region (Egyptian).

In Memphis and Elephantine which have citizenship, the 3rd level oppidium is not offered for construction because browser says it needs regional focus, but it's already an economic and fortified region (Egyptian). Also same problem as Alexandria w/ weapons metal import not being offered.

Thebas is proceeding normally w/ 3rd level oppidium in latter stages of construction. The difference here is that it is an economic and fortified region (Rome and ALL) not Egyptian.

Have I erred in some way w/ the other three? Do I need to destroy the Egyptian economic and fortified regions and construct Roman ones?

    Any help appreciated.

"With a population of around a million, Rome (in Claudius' time) was a vast city even by modern standards. It is worth pointing out that during the early Renaissance the population of Rome was no more than fifteen thousand-- living amid the ruins of a civilization that dwarfed their own. It was not until the nineteenth century that the population of Rome returned to the levels it had enjoyed under the Caesars. That is eloquent proof of the fact that human history is not a tale of steady progress towards greater knowledge and achievement." Simon Scarrow

For a start, those buildings are indestructible. Also, this "just happens" with the RTW engine sometimes, as far as I'm aware it just occasionally misses a hidden resource, and there's nothing that can be done about it. I may be wrong, perhaps Tone or DVK can provide some answers?

Rory, thanks; I hadn't noticed the indestrucability of those facilities.

In the campaign cited above, the Egyptian cities never came on line as recruiting centers. So I used the create_unit cheat to recruit those legions which would have otherwise been unavailable. Between Egyptian and later Greek/Macedonian provinces which evidenced the same fault, there where something like six or seven legions that had to be recruited thusly.

Started my second campaign a few weeks ago still using 2.1a. Now in AUC 605. Rome, Arminium, Arrentium, Cannae, Capua and Tarentum have all come up normally for recruiting. Nothing so far in Sicily, Aleria, Caralis or Carthage even tho all reqd structures have been built. Same problem as last time, building tree thinks no markets have been built so won't let the province progress further toward recruiting the N&N legions.

Last game both Syracuse and Carthage came up without a problem, but Cannae never did. So there must be something random about this glitch. Otherwise you would think the same provinces would give trouble each time. It is annoying tho.

Could be a problem with 2.1a.

    Hi, Paladin,
There's something for you I've discovered about "your" Egypt.
    According to this:

    I've downloaded your save (773).

First, I've built some buildings manually to AUC 780, then used process_cq in Alexandria/Memphis.
    Here are results:

I did rebuilt Alexandria's buildings from scratch, but the same effect was in Memphis when built withouth any modifications (just added buildings by process_cq).

It's very strange that Roman Fortresses don't give any numbered legions in Egypt, but fortunately Curia Hostilia do it.
    HTH.
    Cheers.
