Default Anyone here a fan of the Greek Cities?

I thought about playing as them, or maybe the Macedonians. What do you guys think?

    Fixed your title. Typo. -eXc

The Greeks are similar to the romans in that they lack cavalry and have good heavy infantry. Their major difference is that the greeks are phalanx capable, and the romans throw pila (romans also get access to annoyingly uber urban cohorts and praetorians, but the greeks get spartans). Armored hoplites can pretty much hold their own against roman infantry in hand to hand combat.

The macedonians rely on the phalanx as well, but they rely on numbers and long pikes than armor than the greeks. Also, they have better cavalry (companions). Thing is, if you flank them, they don't stand a chance. Macedonians do not do well in hand to hand.

If you want a really fun challenge, you should try playing Greeks on H/H with no cheats. By far one of the most interesting campaigns i have played to date ^^

I usually play on H/VH. Would that be too hard for a Greek campaign?

If you're a greek fan you could also check the Extended Greek Mod, it adds lots of fun to the game and you can play vanilla alongside with it as it uses the -mod setting...

I considered it, but I'm using Darth Formations, Darth Gameplay mod for BI, Player1's Bug-Fixer, an unlock all factions mod for BI, and a few tweaks I made myself. I'm not sure if there will be compatablility issues or not.

Take a look in the mini mods - light conversions boards, you will find the actual mod progress (every release is a full version, usually there are little to no bugs) and you can suggest new features to be added, XGM is the fastest updating MOD in the community, with often a new release (meaning extra stuff like new units) weekly or less...

It should work without problems with these modifications, in the worst case you will just need to delete the XMG folder and the mod will be gone whitout touching any other setting/modification you made...

I use Terrae Expugnandae and XGM in unison.

BEcause I can use all the XGM re-skins and it also keeps the TE skins that XGM doesnt touch

    Greeks are perfect in TE.
They can actually contend with the Romans.
Originally under the patronage of RZZZA. Under the patronage of the Black Prince, in the Royal House of the Black Prince.

greeks are great to play, but there isnt enough variety on vanilla rtw, you should get the extended greek mod - gives more units and more balance.

the lack of units is the only reason i dont play greeks anymore on vanilla, i got bored of them heh..

extended greek mod gives quite a few new units, search on the mod downloads section for it - brilliant mod to play

yeah, the extended greek mod rocks, it doesnt change your original files so you can do anything you want with the extended greek mod. files while not affecting your RTW files. you really should get it.

Greeks are great to play, especially because they have such a great starting location. Their economy is amazing, and if you use militia hoplites to garrisson cities not vulnerable to attack, you will start getting big time $$$. The only reason I have never finished a campaign with them was when I got fed up with their lack of cavalry. But still, used correctly Greek Cavalry can still pack a punch.

Greeks are a very good choice for everyone! (hope I don't sound like some door-to-door vendor right now )

They have great economical possibilities, are close to the Romans (always nice to kick some Roman behind), Cities are quite close to each other (less riots), can expand quite good, have nice units (look @ hoplites).

But if you want a real chalenge play Numidia on H/VH

i found carthage pretty damn hard at the start of campaigns, everyone basically attacks you and the provinces are a bit spread like the greek ones, exept the greeks have better starting units heh.

    ---

If you like the greeks though and love hoplites, the hegemonia mod would be perfect for j00 aswell - full conversion of r:tw set during the time when the persians invaded etc etc..

Looks good but isnt out yet.
