    Default Melee bug need help.

    Has anyone found a solution to the Melee bug or where the files that deal with this?
    If so what files do I need to mess with to try to fix this problem. I’m tired of downloading mods and the Melee bug is so bad that the enemy always melee’s about before routing. So, I had been learning how to mod NTW by myself and fixing certain things I found annoying with the game. Now I’m to the point I’m ready to mess with trying to fix the melee bug as best as I can. Yet I can’t seem to find any files that deal with unit spacing between two different units.
    Any help telling me what NTW creators call this and where they put it would be of great help.

    Groupformations.bin controls the spacings. I wish you luck. If you look in my signature there is some info.

    melee bug is caused by several things together, so fixing some of them might get you better results. First, AI KNOWS units stats, therefore it will go for type of combat it can produce better casualties (at least most often). That means, if melee is proportionally higher than is the accuracy, AI will try to attack you in close quarters instead of firing at range. Best is the compromise based on unit type. Another thing that greatly influence this is unit spacing in formation as mentioned by HK. If units doesnt have space, they will blend together. Another factor is the charge distance, if set too high, AI will start charging sooner, sometimes without firing one shot! And big problem with melee bug in ETW were fire drills - AI never sucesfully formed unit to fire at enemy, so enemy got close to him, at which point AI tries to engage in melee...

    hope it helps, there might be other factors as well i forgot to mention.

    OK I have looked over a few things and found this: Battle_entities
    There are 3 lines marked as the following:
    1. Distance to begin Charge
    2. Distance to adopt charge stance.
    3. Distance to pick charge target.
    In the first column there are 3 Groups of infantry Units:
    infantry_euro_heavy
    infantry_euro_light
    infantry_euro_medium
    Under theses three I changed the following for all three:
    1. Distance to begin Charge 8
    2. Distance to adopt charge stance. 10
    3. Distance to pick charge target. 8
    I have played about 10 battles so far and it seems the melee bug is mostly gone. Enemy AI units still cross paths, but it seems the AI tries to separate them and only after the enemy AI takes ½ losses will it charge the units in.
    Can someone else test this out to see if they see the same thing or is it just me.
