Silvan Elves vs Trolls

What's the quickest and most effective way to deal with trolls? The silvan elves tend to have small(ish) and relatively elite units, with excellent archers. But the mountain trolls/olg hai make a right mess of the elves' defensive battle lines, often smashing right through to attack the archers behind. Furthermore, they seem fairly resiliant against the arrow-fire. What's the best way to kill them?

Arrows

Focus archer fire to them, once they reach your lines, your melee units finish them off easily.

I guessed as much, but they seem to be able to sustain endless arrows before falling. It's also annoying because I know those same arrows could be making mincemeat of Mordor's infantry before it reaches my swords and spears. Oh well.

I think the Silvan Elves can recruit ballistas? Their normally quite effective against trolls, otherwise just use lots of archers and try to kill them before they reach you. Another alternative is to use mercenaries, I believe that the Beornings can be hired from the Anduin Vale area and they have the armor-piercing attribute which makes them very effective against trolls.

Post your infantry far to the rear when fighting Mordor, Archer lines far forward, Silvan Horse at the very front. peel left and right as the trolls charge aheadif you are lucky they chase the horse. A portion of your archers play shoot and scoot with the Trolls this way. the other portions works towards the rear. of Mordors lines. Hold your arrows until line troops give up the chase and shoot them in the back. Mordor infantry usually hits your infantry in individual units at this point and are easily routed. By the time Mordor finally decides to advance on the infantry line their troops are exhausted and archers are firing into their rear. Nazgul horse make this far more difficult as does their uruk archer units pay special attention to them, which is why HA elves are invaluable.

click on autoresolve is the fastest way..
followed by clicking retreat..

but well some charges in the back also work, softening them up with arrows.. they act like infantry so they are pretty vulnerable to many things

send something worthless at them to get them occupied and shoot with ballistas! arrows would kill your owns too fast in my version

I've been gone for almost a year and people still complain about trolls lol. It's easy. Just bring along atleast one stack of Balistas. Problem solved

But while I am setting up my ballista, the police arrest me for trespassing . I guess ill just have to do a javelin ambush.

Why the hell do you/or who recorded the video, let the archers shoot in the spearmens backs? Causes more casualities than the trolls.

You could also try to lure them away from the main battle with horse archers- Then you can kill the small orcs first and you can deal with the trolls later.

Horse archers. Never fight defensive sieges. Use scouts and horse archer demi-stacks to remove the threat of trolls prior to them engaging you in settlements. Take defeats if you must, but ensure that you do not take trolls on the walls. Its murder, I tell ya.

Oh, and beornings as well.

Else, just lure them away or charge them with cavalry, attack them with ballistae, arrows, AP units, loads of units. Then they're dead.
