I started a Roman campaign only to be overwhelmed with the difference between this and other mods on the strat map. Can anyone recommend an easy starting faction to get my teeth into RTR. I was thinking Lusitania but open to others![]()

+1 for Attalids. Great starting position.
I've not played with Carthage yet, but I'm sure they're one of the easier factions due to the security of N. Africa. Might be hard to hold on to Sicily though.
Thank you to all of the RTR Team.
Attalids have the easiest position and decent army. But if you want the best army and lots of hard fighting, choose the Antigonids or their Epirote nemezis - the Aikaids. The former start as an underdog in eastern Hellas and have to fight back what is rightfully theirs, the latter have a great empire in north-western Hellas, southern Italy and Sicily, but have to fight a 3 front war against Romans, Carthaginians and fellow Greeks.
The Antigonids and Aikaids has the best phalanx and the best heavy cavalry in the game.
THIS IS SPARTA
I always like starting with a one city faction, thats my choice.
The Aedui. Rather easy faction to start with since they are surrounded by free people and the closest possible enemy are the Arverni, who are pushovers when hit early on.
The Celtiberians! These guys have some of the best infantry in the game, and their cavalry will match those of Greece any day![]()
