Asterix & Obelix

Ah, the good old days! I found an old comic a few days ago, and just remembered how good they were! Anyone else read this?

naturally! Asterix & Obelix are still one of the greatest cartoons around, not that i read new cartoons anyway, its Tintin and Asterix & Obelix for me

my fav one is Asterix and the Normans, its ace!!

Yes, I have the entire collection. They are all very good up to the point when Goscinny died. I've read them all countless times, and I never get tired of them.

amazing comic, i loved them when i was little, i havent read any in a long time...

Asterix WAS amazing.
Then Gosciny died.
Underzo has as much sense of humour as an anvil.
The last few albums are awful, the last one going beyond what man can endure.

I have read most of them, but not their last. Goscinny is an excellent writer for Comic Books.

Has anyone read 'Lucky Luke'? I think they're great as well, and they were also written by Goscinny (and drawn by Morris).

I adore the comix, they shaped and warped me... have read each Asterix 20 times.

That's how I started learning french!

My favorites are "La Zizanie", when a roman spy tres to spread hatred in the Village, the Corsicans with the smelly cheese and silent women, and ofcourse Cleopatra, where Obelx attempts to devour the whole poisoned cake...

I have got all the comics...but i think the new ones are crappy

Lucky luke was good, but I don't know how the recent albums are
Rip Morris and Goscinny
the current animated series is rather good imho .

one of my favourite franco-blegian classic is les tuniques bleues

Though, imho, the best current authors are Trondheim and Larcenet...

Asterix in Switzerland and Asterix in Spain are two if I was pressed for a choice....

Asterix in Spain

The part with the gaulish tourists with mobile huts going to spain, and the spanish tourist restaurants serving german foods to german is ace . Ditto for the banks and obsession with cleanliness in Asterix in switerland.
This is what I love with Asterix : it has two reading grids: one is harmless fun, kids can understand : good story, harmless humour, romans getting smacked silly ... the other is more mature, subtile parody _social critic, almost_ of modern life, guest stars, ... And is almost entirely lacking in the most recent albums .

But Surreptitius (resp Pentius Penatus ) might be more difficult (resp) for non French. (The jewish trader helper is Gosciny himself, btw...) You guys might find Asterix funny, yet you are bound to miss much (though a french kid miss much he wil only understand better after a few years too)

I think I damage vital organs laughing during my first read of Asterix in Corsica... including the loading of the boat

I agree with Sidus about the French being great... but the translations were done well... Asterix in Spain in Spanish and in Britain in English I find possibly better than the French version....

Translators must be damn fine indeed. That's a terribly difficult job they're facing .
The "Are you looking at my sister?" part of Asterix in Corsica is hilarious if you know a bit about the Corsican mindset ...
The explosive cheese also, but you have to have actually eaten Corsican cheese :p
