Default What is this Force Diplomacy and Fog of War stuff?

I just installed Europa Barbarorum and I'm confused. I was reading Quintus Sertorius' guide to being a proper Roman, but I can't seem to get people to give -me- tribute in order for me to stop killing them. He and others mention something called Force Diplomacy, but I have no idea what that is. How do I utilize this magic force diplomacy to make my enemies pay me to leave them alone?

You press escape to enter the menu, choose game options, then disable advisor and back to the game. After that you enter negotiations and press "ceasefire" for example. After that you click the questionmark in the upper corner to make the advisor appear, which will tell you to press the "show me" button to activate forced diplomacy. After that you just press "offer agreement" and the oppsing faction will be forced to accept.
The fog of war is the mist that covers the rest of the map that you can't see. By entering toggle_fow in the console you can turn it off to render the entire map visible.

It should be noted that you do have to download and install the Force Diplomacy mod first. It doesn't come as standard in EBI.

True story, I keep forgetting that it's separate.

So, what do I do? Move all the folders out of Program Files and extract Force Diplomacy to it? I've already tried the UAC bit (don't think I did it right, really).

If you just started with EB, read the EB FAQ very careful.

Force diplomacy is a good way of playing a more realistic campaign, win a couple of big battles and then force the enemy to surrender and pay to tribute. Otherwise faction won't give in which would be pretty unrealist (except for the roman who never really amitted defeat).

Alright, well, I updated to EB 1.2, then downloaded Force Diplomacy 1.2.

However, when I use 7-zip to extract the .rar file to the Rome Total War folder (after having backed up the two necessary files in another folder within the greater "Activision" directory) I get these error messages:

"ERROR: Can not delete Output file C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\data\EXPORT_DESCR_ADVICE.TXT

can not open output file C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\data\scripts\show_me\Force_Diplomacy.txt

Don't install EB into Program Files while using Vista/Win7!
If you do, run everything related to that (also the 7-zip extractor) with admin-rights or disable the UAC while overwriting files.

    1.2 is not savegame-compatible to 1.1

Moving the folder outside is an option, however your shortcuts won't work anymore.
Create a new shortcut to Rome-TW.exe and add -mod:eb -show_err -ne to the end of your target line.

I need to install this mod..

I'm playing a game as Carthage and have taken about 60% of the Roman lands. They have expanded north to take the rebel lands up to the Aedui standard holdings. They REFUSE to make peace. I don't want to wipe them out and I don't want to keep wasting my time fighting off their little armies, I want them to make peace, ideally with an appropriate tribute, and make expansions elsewhere, or just sit and secure their hegemony in northern Italy. Wiping them out is boring and constant, pointless war is, too.

Just got a new comp. Need to find a new place to get Force Diplomacy, because none of the links on that link work now! Any other options?

The second option still works for me.
I'll update the thread with another link in the next days.
