Default Issues with Norton 360 = Help! please :)

    Hi RTR & whomever,

I get the Norton problem with the RTR VII.exe & hotfix also.

I tried to go to Sonar and configure it but MAN is it bizarre!

Can someone assist me to finally get RTR VII & the hotfix on my PC?

    Thank you,
    hellas1.5

    UPDATE:

I believe that I've accessed the correct "items to exclude from Sonar detection" option.

    Will post back!

    UPDATE 2:
Wrong option in Norton! I guess I need to click "items to exclude from scans" option also.

    Will post back tomorrow!

    Hi,

    I'm a "little" obsessed here:

I went into Norton 360 & chose: "items to exclude from Sonar detection & Scans"

Downloaded the hotfix (shorter download time and STILL got blocked:
Norton calls it a "trojan horse" or "virus" ........can't remember.

Please help as I'm at an impasse.

    Thanks,

From Download Mirror and Installation Guide. Not sure if it helps.

    Known issues

It has been reported that users of Norton Antivirus have been experiencing problems in that Norton has been deleting the RTRVII download file due to its "low reputation"! As more people download the file the better its "reputation" becomes, so this problem should go away but in the meantime there is a way around it:
    - in your Norton internet security panel, select "settings"
    - scroll down to where it says "AntiVirus and SONAR exceptions" or something similar
    - here you can use "configure" to specify items that are to be excluded from scans, and Auto-Protect and SONAR detection.
    - Specify the folder to which you will be saving the installer

    - Download the installer to this folder.

    Howdy OvO,

I download ALL files using Firefox.

Well, I just added that .exe to the "excluded items" list and I'll see if THAT works.

Goodness, I can't believe the issues I'm having with 2 files!

P.S. THIS should be stickied! Just my perspective of course.

    UPDATE:

Yeah, Firefox was excluded but the RTR VII hotfix is still greyed out from the C:\users\downloads location.

I think I'll wait until the file gets "medium rep" or "high rep" whatever.

    This blows.

Disable Norton while installing might help.

What I ended up doing is designating a folder and excluding that from being checked before downloading and saving the installer there

Hi hellas, you can also unquarantine the hotfix by going to nortons tasks/security history and then click the drop box and choose quarantine, select the RTRVII hotfix then options and finally restore. This should restore the the hotfix to whatever folder it downloaded originally.

I posted this in the Install Thread:

If you get one of the downloads flagged by Norton as a threat and it removes it from your download location (I had no option to accept it) there is a way to get it back without having to download again..... I had the hotfix flagged.

    1. Open Norton and select 'Quarantine':
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    2. This will bring up a list of all the quarantined items. Select the item you want and then select 'Options'.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    3. This will bring up another Window that will give you three options. Select 'Restore' to move the file from Quarantine to where you tried to download it originally.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I must say though that when my downloads got deleted, they didn't appear in the list of things put into quaranteen, so there was nothing to restore either. I'm using a slightly older version of Norton Internet Security.

Jeez! Am I glad that I moved to ESET! I had nothing but issues when I was using Norton, whereas, with nearly four years with ESET I hardly know that it's there - and it's let no nasties through in all that time.

I've been using Norton for a very long time and have not had any real issues with it.

It was a pain to find out how to get the file back from quarantine - it would have been easier if there was a way to get the file back from the original message that tells you a file is suspect. I had to do this with the smallest RSII setup file and found how to do it then - I just forgot how I did it....

P.S. Unfortunately, I've got to re-download RTR VII.exe! Darn it!
