    Default Dumb person requires assistance

Okay, so I finally got around to DLing this mod.

It's telling me I've put it in the incorrect folder, even though I didn't put it in the programs files in C? I moved it around and it's still telling me the same thing.

    And:

    "Engine: RomeTW.exe, Faction campaign: -mod:play_rome "

    "In total: 'RomeTW.exe -mod:play_rome-show-err-nm-movie_cam' "

I've never added a mod to this game before, and this is gibberish to me.

Did I forget to install something? And then, what folder would work?

I'm running off of Windows 7 and I'm not using Steam.

    Thanks for any help.

It's usually a sign that the mod has not been installed properly. I got the same error message when the exe I was trying to use (R:TW Alex) was not in the game folder.

Compare your install with the one that is shown in the Install Instructions: here.

There must be some small detail I'm missing. I've reinstalled it and it's still giving me the same messages. I've got all six parts. I've patched to 1.5.

Does the RS II folder need to be separated from the RTW folder? If so, where does it need to be placed? The instructions at that part aren't clear to me. I haven't put it in the Program Files, I'm not putting it on the desktop, for now I've just put it in the C folder as I'm not exactly sure where else to put it...

you shouldn't save things directly to C; instead you should put them in something like MyDocuments/RTWMods/ or something. they can play from anywhere. Also, I think that once you install the mod, the desktop icon references where you originally installed it, so that won't work if you moved it after the fact. try making a clean copy of vanilla RTW in MyDocuments somewhere, then make sure that you tell the RSII installer to install to that folder (i.e.<< C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\RTWMods\RSII\Rome - Total War >> ). Plus, make sure you install directly to "Rome - Total War" and not somewhere further inside it.

Okay, I know it's a clean copy of RTW...

OK, well that error message isn't saying your install is in the wrong folder; it's saying there's a problem with the text in one of the files. Apparently, this also happened with another person earlier; see thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=480093. Maybe that will help. Pretty sure.. yeah, it was Brusilov that solved that one too, I think. I'm wondering though, if it isn't actually the RS install that's corrupted, as this seems to be the same exact error message for 2 people in one day; maybe one of the download links is busted? try using a different download source, and see if that helps; pretty sure there were a couple to choose from.

Actually, there's only one link that works, the one from 'strategyinformer'. I think I'm just going to start it all over again.

If it still does it. Well... it.

Well, I think I got it to work, just deleted everything and started anew and thus far it works.

Seems to be an amazing game!

    Thanks for everything.

Make sure it's a clean working copy of R:TW or R:TW BI. Launch the thing before you install RSII onto it.

I keep all my downloads in folders so I can find them again. e.g. C:\SKN\SKN_Downloads\Games\RomeTotalWar\RSII (where SKN is my initials).

I keep everything away from both the c:\program files (x86) and c:\program files folders (I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit). I also turn off or down the UAC (User Account Control).
