Something very peculiar is occurring. Why would my 33 year old merchant be aged? Taking away movement points at this age seems unnecessary.![]()

I've actually noticed this too. Why is my merchant too old to travel far at 35 and yet my general is FINALLY beyond battle at 80? Does not compute!
AFAIK, that's a product of the trait system whereby characters go through a progression of different traits based on the number of turns they have been active, not age.
For instance in the case of merchants, the 33yo merchant was probably recruited in his 20's and got the aged trait in his thirties. A merchant recruited in his 30's/40's might not get the aged trait until his 50's/60's.
The RSII guys for RTW came up with a solution for the age-related traits I think.
There is a chance at the end of each turn that the merchant will develop the trait. You would need to ask whoever created that trait set what the chance is though.
Yep, it's an educated guess based on my experience with RTW and what I have seen of the M2TW trait system (which is an evolution of the RTW one).
I never said that the merchant couldn't start with the trait just like any other character and other trait sets.
That is not enterily false but it isn't really true either.
Keep in mind that at the same time you have boosts likeTrigger Merchant_Old_Age
WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd
Condition AgentType = merchant
and CharacterAge >= 32
and not CharFactionType slave
Affects OldMerchant 1 Chance 100
Trigger MerchantLocalMerchant_add
WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd
Condition AgentType = merchant
and RemainingMPPercentage = 100
and OnResource
Affects LocalMerchant 1 Chance 100
Sorry Dahoota but that just sounds like an assumption to me, since i have had at least 15 Merchants created with the "aged" trait. I stopped watching for this trait after those and do now assume that you get this trait around Merchant Age 35. It's not that important though since you can still move them around the map and camp them for another 30 turns on average. (at least after having played 30 turns and having some Merchant guilds)
may i ask what this Chance 100 actually does? Is it an increase by 1 with a Chance of 1% as in 1/100?
Educational as always. Much appreciated bane.
Any non-slave merchant of 32 or above should get it.
