    Default Siege Deployment Problem

Hey all, I'm having a problem with battering rams in siege assaults. When I click on start deployment I can move all my units around EXCEPT for the units holding the rams. These units can be highlighted but can not be redeployed anywhere else while holding the ram. I can drop the ram and than move the unit, but I can not move any of my rams during the deployment stage. So far I've just been starting the battle and than moving the ram at 3x speed, but this is getting a little bit annoying. Is this a problem anyone else is having, is there a fix for this? I haven't attempted a siege on stone walls yet so I'm not sure if it applies to ladders an towers as well.

I've never had any problem moving any siege equipment - apart from sap points......

In my experience (admittedly it was RS 1.6), this is due to the new battle-map environments.

Large areas of some siege maps are actually classed as forest, which is of course impassible to siege equipment. But to the untrained eye they don't really look like forest due to the sparseness of the trees.

Another symptom of sieges I noticed was that the Ram pushers are sometimes initially deployed in a long line along the inner boundary of the deployment area, though they return to the normal rectangular formation when the ram advances.

EDIT: Select some siege equipment during the deployment phase, the cursor explicitly indicates areas you can't deploy in due to forest.

hmmm I'll have to check next time if i can find places to deploy the rams that aren't classified as 'forests', maybe if i deploy on the left or ride side I'll have more success, but that's still just a workaround. The last 2 times stick out the most an both those times I built 5 rams. As the post above said, 4 of them would deploy right up to the boundry in a thin straight line, and the 5th a little behind but all 5 would have the same problem. I thought maybe the game was trying to deploy the rams outside of the deployment zone, and when it couldn't do that they just got 'stuck'.

I only thought of this because the vanilla formations start all your equipment well back of the boundry, but here there right up to the border

It can happen, I've had the same with Halikarnossos (I think), there were two solutions - retreat - but then you'll lose some men and redeploy on the opposite side, or load an earlier save. Usually, if you can't move on one side, you can on the other. I retreated, loaded my men on a boat and just sailed to the opposite side, then I exterminated everyone for making my life a pain

just take it simple, the realistic ways to take cities are mostly starve them, not assault unless it was in really deciding situations

and because the ram are "free" we can assume some stupid soldiers forgot to give the required grease
