Launcher not working

alright,
well I have recently had a .blob error (or at least I think it was that with steam) and had to do a sort of reinstall where they refreshed everything.
All of my other games are working normally but when I go to launch RS the launcher workis fine up until I try to launch the game then it does nothing and stops responding, forcing me to launch the task manager and exit.

Oh I have windows 7 64, steam, all exe's, if there is anything I missed I will try to provide it.

edit: I have looked around in the folder and everything seems to be fine.

edit2:I have unistalled alex then deleted the Rome total war Alexander folder then downloaded it again and installed everything and yet it still does not work. I have tried opening the game via the batch file and oddly enough that seems to work.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to change the factions that it uses so that is not a solution yet.

Once more PLEASE HELP ME!!
I have such a strong urge to play a Macedon campaign right now and I feel as if I am getting RS II withdrawal.
Once you play it there is no going back.

I am wondering if re-installing steam would help the problem because I have noticed that medieval II is now experiencing crashes.

Those are the only two games that require launchers I have on steam and they both stopped working shortly after the .blob error occurred.
For example, I have RTR VII installed on steam and I don't use the launcher for that and it works flawlessly, ALSO, when I open RS II with the batch file it works.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to change the settings/factions it starts with.

So, if any of you can either answer one of the following questions I urge you to do so for I desperately want to play:
1) Will reinstalling steam have any affect?
2) What other solutions might I try?
3) How do I change the which faction I lach with when using the batch file (I know it is in the Important_Stuff folder, I think) but not the specifics.

I'd help but I don't use Steam to play R:TW based mods......

do you know how to change the faction the .batch file uses? Because I believe non-steam users still have those files.
If not do you know which area of TWC is more likely to offer support on RTW mods using steam?

There are RSII developers that use Steam with R:TW.

I presume you did read the Using Steam bit in the install instructions: here.

I run everything through the Launcher and have had no need to run using the 'bat' files......

edit: yes I have read the instructions. The wierd thing is I had it working fine about a month ago.

I tried to find the person who added the Steam install instructions but can't find any trace of it.

I'd suggest a PM to Apple who may be able to point you in the right direction. If you just point him to this thread rather than explain everything. So, if there is a solution it can be on the forum rather than a PM.

Never mind IFIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for that, had to get it out of the way. It turns out that when I tried re-installing steam it worked.

The reason I wanted to play so insanely badly was that after looking at the awesome RTR VII Antigond (Macedonians) I had an urge to play the successor states but RTR's smaller map meant that RS II was much better for that purpose.
