What's the best tactic to use against elephants? The seem to be unstoppable.

Block them with some infantry and then shower them with lots and lots of spears![]()

Use spearmen with bonus vs horses. Use 3 units pr. elephant unit, that should work. Try and make the elephants charge into your line of long-spear falanks. That wont work against heavy armoured elephants.....
You could allso fire at them with fire arrows to make them run amok.
Yeah, archers seem to work rather well. In general, try to find a way to hold them in one place while missile units pepper them with javelins/arrows. Stick with normal arrows once they have engaged your troops, though - you don't really want them running amok through your infantry line (better to just kill them in my opinion).
I found skirmisher cavalry to be very effective against them. Of course add archers and infantry javelins to add and it should be pretty easy.
Much like the majority of animals i have experimented on in real life, elephants hate having arrows that are on fire shot at them.
wow u did shoot flaming arrows to animals?
I like your attitude, Heinz. It's a pleasure to read your posts, where have you been in all those years before the release?![]()

Wow! just had a battle on a bridge as the Antiganoids facing the Rival macedonian army's that have control of Pella. I quickly chewed their advance across the bridge up with my Sarissa, with the loss of about 100 out of 2200 men. So i decided to advance my entire army across the bridge to deal with the last unit they had, ELEPHANTS!
Thinking it would b just like the good old days where my sarissa usually kill elephants easilly,i marched merilly and steadily onwards. One of my units reached the unit of Elephants 1st and decided to tickle them with their spears. Well as you can imagine, the beasts didn't take kindly to this and decided they would finally cross the bridge themselves, trampelling and drowning 1200 of my men in the space of 2 mins
Needless to say i learnt to take the threat of an Elephant charge very seriously after loosing over half my armed strength on that bridge that day.
I took screen shots but i cant find which folder they are sent too![]()
Thanks guys. And I empathize with the action against the elephants in the bridge action. I also read somewhere that an army defending against elephants used flaming pigs, which were sent running in the direction of the elephants. Too bad we don't have those.
Skirmishes - about 2-3 lots should have enough javelins to kill All the Elephants in a unit before the beasts charge
I appreciate you saying that brother. I didnt log into twc for six months until i was bored at work about a week ago and searched the RTR forums on my phone whilst in a meeting.
This is when i saw Tony's Zero Hour thread. I was quite active before that, just messing around in the Discussions forums or sexually harassing Tony, the normal stuff.
I actually have shot flaming arrows at people before, but never animals.

When did you ever manage to do that lol?Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation
Ditto on javelins, that's what I usually use. The biggest problem is keeping a couple units of javelins from wasting their ammo on something other than pachyderms.
