    Default Dwarves Settlements/Mines

    First of all, Hello.

I want to ask if the generic Dwarvish settlements (if there will be in the next version) will be all underground like Moria (and I suppose Erebor). Tolkien never presents the Dwarves as living on open ground but from Belegost in the First Age to Erebor in the Third they are always represented as living in mines and caves, so I think that their settlements should be all underground.

If it is not possible due to modding complexity or impossibility it is another matter.

strat map model that will look like sort of mine entrance - doable (2.1 already got strat map custom models)
battle map, unless TATW team prepares something special, such cities could be resolved by sky texture that will look like underground, (example: in DOW: dark crusade-necron stronghold had something like that)

Well in one of the preview there was Moria underground, i think it was made by inserting it in narrow passes between mountains so in battles it could be done.

No because it'd be ridiculous for settlements that are naturally above ground to suddenly sink under after getting upgraded. It would only make sense for mountain regions but then very single of those settlements would need to be classified as unique (even if they all look the same) which then means the above ground town types would become default dwarven towns which then messes up situations where dwarves take other mountain settlements and upgrade them and I don't even want to think about the problem of goblins and dwarves taking settlements from each other and upgrading them. Maybe if all the unique mountain settlements were made non-upgradeable starting out with huge walls but that's hardly an ideal solution.

this seems quite reasoneable... so the only underground settlements would be Erebor and Moria? I know that it's absurd to have a settlement immediately sunk in the ground but it would be so awesome!

I honestly don't know what KK's full plans are. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually wanted to make a unique underground settlement for each mountain region (at least in the north) but it just doesn't seem feasible in terms of time and energy required.

Well I'll be happy as long as Erebor and Moria are underground, but would like to see Dain's Halls and Thorin's Halls be undergroud as well. I do agree it'd be pretty ridiculous to have above-ground settlements suddenly become underground when taken over by Dwarves, but I'd still like to see a "culture change". With the buildings looking dwarvish. Just because culture is one of my favorite aspects...I love playing as a good faction and "cleansing" evil lands and vice versa, so I'm happy to see that the Elves and Orcs will have their own settlements; just would like to see that for the Dwarves as well. The outer parts of Thorin's Gate and Othrikar in LOTRO could give a basic idea. Actually the Dourhand city Kheledul would be best for that. Speaking of which Dourhand dwarves would be a cool mercernary for evil factions, unfortunantly I don't know enough about LOTR lore to know whether they were made up or not...but still...be pretty cool

Nope, Othrikar, Kheledul, and Dourhands are all quite fictional in comparison to the Lore. LotRO Specials, that's for sure!

Ya kinda figured it out when I read into it haha. But I meant it just as a reference for how the buildings could look ya know.

I agree, even though lot of LOTRO content is fictional and sometimes not the right way, dwarven architecture in there is neat. If needed i can provide lots of reference material.
    Time is the killer.
