There is no custom folder as part of the download. There are 6 files, 4 .cab's, 1 .msi and the exe.And there is no custom folder created as part of the installation. What are you trying to do?

The custom folder is part of vanilla R:TW and it may be one of those folders that is not created by the exe until after you've fought a battle.
I believe the preferences folder may also not exist until the game has been launched - certainly the contents are not there until after the game has been launched.

I was looking at my 2.1 which has been played and there is no custom folder, it's a long while since I played RTW vanilla and my install for that is just my base copy for mod installs, so yeah I may have mistaken where exactly it is. It is not part of the install however, so the question remains, what is the OP trying to do?

Not sure why they're so intent on having a custom folder but I do think Brusilov may be onto something, because "Custom" merely warehouses your saved custom battles - so it might well be that it is created by the engine when you play a custom battle. Then it would hold "previous battle" at least. If nothing else, you could always just create a blank folder named custom in the main folder (path = [drive]/whateverfolderyouputtheinstallinto/whateveryounamethemodfolder/rome - totalwar/custom) and it should work just fine, since the engine knows to put saved custom battles in the "custom" folder. Unless I'm really missing something, but I think that's right.
