Default A question about Romans and conversion

I've heard that the reason lithuania couldn't convert to catholicism late in the game is because of AI issues, but I had another question related to this. Would it be possible for the ERE to convert? The reason I ask is because in the last days of Byzantium they did convert to Roman Catholicism (though the conversion ended quickly). The Orthodox factions are not able to be crusaded (unlike lithuania) and tend to have better diplomacy with Catholics than Pagans, so that made me wonder if it would effect the AI less. If it was possible/practical to implement I think it would be cool to include the option at the beginning of the Late campaign, since Byzantium did allot of negotiating with the Papacy around that time, pluss it would help allot to have catholicism backing you agains the turks fatimids and mongols.

I also think that a protestantism event for the HRE and England would be cool, but that might be harder on the AI.
