    Default Need help with gameplay

I loaded up a campaign after playing a lot of custom battles. I haven't played M2 for a very long time, and stumbled on these mods while bored and exploring the forums (been in the shogun 2 forum for a while).

Anyhow, in campaign battle, I can't set unit depth and facing (click +drag). When I drag, the unit is moved to the end of my drag, retaining it's original depth and facing. If I do a long drag, the unit is moved, then the circles show up when the depth is 2. Basically it's just a long line. Anyone know what's going on?

And the battles themselves are odd. When I tell a unit to charge an approaching enemy unit, often times the closest guys charge to the enemy, the back row strolls forward a bit, and the rest get strung out between them. Any tips to get my guys fighting better?

Merchants: how do I use thses guys?

Ranged units: is there no FF?

AI mods: does Darthmod work with CoW?

It is very hard to tell where provinces start and end, do I just need to play more to become familiar with the map?

Units: are all units capped? I understand why Black Orcs, or Chosen are capped, but why are core units capped?

    Welcome to the CoW game

I'll try and answer what I can:

1: Drag & Facing - Not sure what you mean here , I have no problems dragging units to whatever depth and facing I need - are you talking about open battles or siege? Siege occaisionaly I have to take a unit out to another part of the map to then try and "fit" in when I can - but i'm not sure what problem you're having here (in the setup phase only).

2: Charging - Yes there is a time lag - did you check if the unit you tasked to charge has the "may charge at any time" - sometimes these don't follow your commands (some Empire knights have this for example). The lag with charging, yes I think (i'm not sure) this has to do with model spacing - some models like chaos and especially orcs have a time delay but i've noticed it with all - its just something i've gotten used to over time so I build it into my battle plans..

3: Merchants - Now this I can answer! Like old fashioned MTW2 merchants give you income - in CoW its vital for your income. The amount you gain depends on what faction you play - but a good basis is always to head to the Warpstone at Mordheim (Green crystals in the centre of the map) - see this lot of guides for some tips - but note some are old guides. You do need to check whats best for each faction - i've just found out Gold is better for the dwarves than most other trade goods (totally accurate if you are a dwarf player like me )

4: Friendly fire - Yes there is as far as I have seen.

    5: Darthmod - No idea.

6: Province limits - It comes with experience - there should be a thin line on the campaign map showing you the boundary - if you can't see it - you probably havn't hit it yet - trust me its a lot easier playing an Empire faction with spies to get your eye in, but I have no problem seeing them but then I know the map very very well now

7: Units - No not all units are capped but some are, some are one off events when you get them - overall I think the mod does a very good job of balance (my god it would be easier for the dwarves if you could recruit multiple Greatbeards ). If you mean capping by recruitment - i.e. so many turns to recruit - this is purely a design feature, and a damn good one imo - it forces you to think carefully about what recruitment buildings to build in what areas, it means for long periods of the game you are on edge.

    Hope that helps OGSleep.

    about your points:-

    1. i can confirm from kurgis that i dont have a problem with this, seige deployment is a bit of a pain though when defending
    2. charging- yes there is a problem with units charging, but no all units, sometimes it works fine sometimes not, i feel this is a vanilla problem since i have the same thing in vanilla med2
    3. kurgis has gone into a bit of depth on merchants, but since your coming from shogun 2 and no doubt empire, perhaps you dont know the basics. simply click your merchant onto a trade resource on the campaign map, usually icons of mins, sheep, green stones etc and when your merchant is on top of it when you double click him it will say something like 'trading 100 gold coins per turn' or something similar.
    4. FF- there IS friendly fire, its just the ai in med2 has advance from rome tw and now your units actively avoid FF, they will try to fire up into the air to avoid smacking your own units in the back.
    5. darthmod as far as i can remember is finely tuned for the particular mods, or vanilla game, it is intended for, and will most likely cause crashes in COW. i used to use DM in empire when i used to play it, veryy handy mod. i suppose the genius GIGANTUS might be able to enlighten you on this one, if he is watching
    6. yes there are boundarys, look closer.
    7. kurgis said enough on this point.
