I thought Skype was absolutely free? IDK I don't use it personally, she could get charged for the data usage I suppose....

You need Skype Premium which 8 dollars a month for actual phone calls, but if you "skype" her phone from your computer and she has the app on the phone its free. Doesnt make any sense but it works and is free. I tested this myself by calling my friends computer from my skype app on my android and it never asked for me to upgrade to skype premium. Im not sure if its different for International

Jake's right i have done the same and if it's free in a country like India then it's free on International level also.
It's actually voice chating (PC<----->Smart Phone) which is free while actual calls costs and needs a premium account.![]()
Skype is free as long as you stay within their network, i.e. as others have pointed out: If you call your friend from one Skype account to another, it's free, no matter on what platform the Skype software runs. It costs money as soon as you leave the Skype network, e.g. when you call your friend's cell phone number from your Skype account.
However, keep in mind two things:
1. Your friend should either have an existing 3G/UMTS data subscription, or access to a WLAN. If not, the smartphone will create a lot of costs, because sending data (i.e. Skype voice chats) without data subscription is usually extremely expensive.
2. When I use my Android smartphone and Skype, quality sucks big time. This might be different with your friend's connection, but mine is usually fast for all other purposes. It could be that the Skype Android app sucks.
"The cheapest form of pride however is national pride. For it reveals in the one thus afflicted the lack of individual qualities of which he could be proud, while he would not otherwise reach for what he shares with so many millions. He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. Thus he recovers and is now in gratitude ready to defend with hands and feet all errors and follies which are its own."-- Arthur Schopenhauer
