Failed Logon - Invalid CD-Key

Hey everyone I'm having a problem I get "Failed Logon - Invalid CD-Key" , I'm trying to login on the Medieval II: Total War multiplayer and i can't, I have seen this thread here talking about this problem.

so did you attempt changing the "allusers" in the preference file like in the post you linked to?

open your Medieval II: Total War folder, scroll down and look for medieval2.preference.CFG and open with notepad.

Okay, where it says allusers it is 1. It must be something else.

did you download the game from a site like Direct2Drive or Steam? if so there may be a seperate key you have to put in for MP play. i know that D2D has a authentic. key AND a MP key you must put in for MP. also make sure you are patched to at least 1.3 (vanilla) or 1.5 (kingdoms)

I have bought the disc, I just installed it today in a long time and you say I need to download some mod/ updates for the game, it worked a year ago, now I do not know what's wrong.
