    Default Political Leanings

There is a lot of debate about political leanings on these forums. According to some we are die-hard communists, according to others we are Nazi's....
So I am aiming to find out which way we really do lean!

    I am Right Wing.....

    This is a Public Poll!

Surely you can only ever know which way we think lean, hm? And that may well in reality be a very different leaning to our true leaning based on our beliefs...

Oh, and left-wing "leanings", though leaning so far I'm almost falling over according to some.

I think people that entrench themselves into one political mindset lose objectivity. I have sympathy for the whole political spectrum which is only right facing the situation the modern world presents.

I consider myself Center-Right, though you can divide it between areas:

Foreign Policy: Classical Liberal/Neo-Conservative (I believe everyone should have freedoms, and live in nations where the governments are accountable to their people. I'm also anti-massacre)
Social Issues: Moderate (I'm pro-death penalty/pro-life, pro-equal rights, wants to reform Affirmative Action, pro-religious freedom, and center-left on Gay Rights, pro-Marijuana Legalisation (though I'll never touch the stuff myself))
    Economic: Center-Middle Right

I have no faith in politics at all, but I guess I would be considered slightly leftish in general philosophy.

It all comes down to personality anyway. If you're a cynic, and a pessimist you are conservative, if you are naive and upbeat you're a liberal (I'm sure I'll be lynched for this heretical talk, but I think there is much truth in it).

Hoy! I'm cynical, AND naive! What am I?

    OK, it's a rhetorical question...

    Good format Farnan.

I voted Middle Left, though I will usually argue for the side that is losing.

Foreign Policy: Middle Left. I think that we should secure our own interests first, but then we should also stand up for human rights, and give out monetary and military aid to nations that need it. No more preemptive wars.
Social Issues: Middle. I am pro-life and want social security reform. But I am also pro legalizing marijuana, want to see socialized medicine, and want way more money to go to education.
Economic: Also middle left. I think the rich need to have the hell taxed out of them. They can afford it.

I'm not exactly sure if immigration is a 'wing' issue anymore, no-one seems to agree about it.

I preffer the political compass method.
Rather than the one dimentional left/right distribution, they have those as well as liberetarian and authoritarian.

It seems to be made for Americans mainly.

Surely because of this for example:
Our civil liberties are being excessively curbed in the name of counter-terrorism.
Which is an obious reference to the patriot act. If I would live under the patriot act, I would say 'yes', but since I do not I'd vote 'disagree', though that will probably make me more rightist...

Also what have these things to do with it, lol:
Abstract art that doesn't represent anything shouldn't be considered art at all.
    Astrology accurately explains many things.
    ...

Ah, finally, here are my results:

    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.23

For the first question: Totalitarians don't like abstract art. Since it is bastract, it cannot participate in the general voluntarism imposed on the society, which generally manifests itself in the arts by pompous academic figurative works celebrating the regime. Tolerance to such arts bars you from being a totalitarian => negative social points.

For the second: the right is a political/philosopical romantism, remembrance of a glorious/better past, putting a heavy emphasis on the mystique and religious, calling for tapping the the vital force of man, nature and "the <insert as appliquable> nation", &c &c... See Nietzsche & Fichte. Or that most extreme manifestation that is the Nazism. The left is a political/philosophical rationalism. Godless (or at least very sceptic, and prefering the light of reason over faith in an unknowable God) , universal, normative, imperative. &c &c. See Kant & Hegel. Or the most extreme manifestation of it, the (historical) communist illusion . Believing is astrology therefore gives you positive points in social, or so I would guess.

Right wing on some subjects, left wing on some others... I voted middle-left for the cause, but things like that can hardly be generalised, except for some people who are very limited, in my opinion.

Left of center. On some issues I'm more right, but for the most part, I lean left.

This is interesting: Just today my Participation in Government (PIG for short) teacher had us take 4 or 5 different "tests" to tell us where our own political ideologies lay. Mine were fairly consistently moderate/lefty, although one of mine randomly said I had views identical to George W's (wasnt too happy about that). Sorry hub'ite, but no way!
