Rome TW on Steam - Mouse Freeze

I am able to start the game (TW Rome 1.5) from steam, and navigate the start menus. When I try to play any game my mouse cursor is frozen in the middle of the screen. It won't move at all. Keyboard works, but without the mouse I can't do much. Other TW games I have (Empire, Shogun2) work fine.

Verify the game cache.

Update the mouse drivers.

I know that sometimes this happens with a wireless mouse. I know that people have had this problem in the past and have resolved the issue but as I use a wired mouse again I didn't take notice of the fix......

It's frustrating - it's a wired mouse. It's the up to date version. Someone else on the Steam forum for TWR has the same issue exactly, but no reply there. Thank you all for trying though.

I've found recently that although I use a wired mouse (Razer Deathadder) there is a difference in mouse speed between the menus and the campaign/battle map. If I adjust the mouse speed using the Options menus to be right for the campaign and battle maps it tends to go slow on the menus.

I'm using Windows Home Premium 64 bit edition so it may well be something within Windows itself rather than the game (which is fully patched but clearly does not get updates). I don't use Steam for R:TW.
