If the assasins fail and get caught ( killed ), then you will be outlawed by the senate and that starts the civil war. It is a handy trick if you want to start the civil war earlier.

Well some people would like to start a civil war early so the send assassins to kill a roman family member eg. Julianus Scipio. He fails and War starts. Of course assassins are also used to Take out great family members of other Roman factions if they are going to be a threat or just for fun.

I once started the Civil War early, like in 265 BC. Scipii allied with Gaul and then I attacked Gaul, and for some unknown reason Scipii sided with Gaul and then attacked me, triggering the war. Got Rome by 270BC and was the lone Roman faction.

If you start the civil war like that, do all the factions pursue you activly or do they just declare war and let the senate handel you? What I am saying is that do the factions still have a desire themselves to one day take Rome?

They will take in form you, but they never really start the civil war

In mine the Scipii started the war, in some sense.

From my experience, the other non-SPQR Roman factions go after you, if they're not busy  But SPQR, I think, don't actively pursue you, unless you enter the Latium region.
