Papal Approval we be a solid 'Inspiration to all Christendom' when your Bishop becomes Pope for your faction. If your excommunicated at the time you'll have a high chance of being reconciled. If you want to go to war with a neighboring Catholic faction, since you approval is so high, you can keep attacking them for longer as your approval has to drop a fair way before the Pope threatens you with excommunication. Also, your alliances and enemies will directly effect Papal Approval as soon as he becomes Pope meaning that if a previous enemy starts attacking and keeps on doing so, the likely hood of them being excommunicated is high due to their low Papal approval. And of course you have a high chance of the Pope agreeing to your Crusade targets.
