Default i hate how rome total war runs on my computer

so when i ever i run my game with any particular mod, since my screen is 1440x900 the game does not allow me to have a resolution more than 1024x800 which makes the game all distorted and small. not to mention the game would look horrible, is there anyway to increase resolution?
cant wait for CA to make a romes 2;TW, who likes to play as samurai anyways?

Go to C:/Progam Files/steam/steamapps/common/Rome Total War/preferences or C:/Program Files/Creative Assembly/Rome Total War/preferences and load up the preferences text file, scroll down until you see Strategy & Battle resolution and enter your desired stuff.

I play R:TW at 2560x1600....... All I did was change it in the preferences.txt.

Default where is the preference text file?

i asked a question earlier but the moderator was a little too quick to close the thread, and i dont really understand why it needed to be closed in the first place...anyways to change my resolution i need to edit the preference file but it is not in the data folder or in the main folder.

Once you launch the game a folder will be created in the main game folder called 'preferences'. In it will be a file called 'preferences.txt'.

If you read the Install Instructions for this mod you will have found a screen shot of a folder that has been prepared for a RSII install:

In the same thread there is a screen shot of the above folder after RSII has been installed in it:

We recommended that you installed RSII on a working copy of the game. Therefore, the game will have been launched and a preferences folder and preferences.txt file will have been created as shown above.

Also when you launch a faction specific campaign the game will create a preferences folder and a preferences.txt file in the 'play_faction' folder. It will use the one in the preferences folder in the main game folder (as shown above).

If you have not done so you will need to change the file manually in all the places that it's been created.

well when i go to RSII's launcher folder there is something called preference editor i changed the resolutions and the game and ran the game, the game just closes it self without any errors. but i think this is another problem because before trying to find the preference folder just now i ran the game through the vanilla launcher but the RS2 logo popped up but it closed it self again after 2-3 seconds. its been while i haven't played RS2 and i keep this in an external, should i reinstall or can i/you fix it?
also in my installation i understood i have to install RS2 in the main folder and replace any conflicting files, i wasnt aware that RS2 had something like the Medieval2's Kingdom mod foldered setup where it is much more user friendly.
