New Processor

Hello, im thinking of upgrading my Processor to something better.

I called my friend and he told me that i need to upgrade My Motherboards Placket(?) or something? I dont know, and he said a decent one will cost me 100 Euro(he told me i can only install 2 core and 4 core processors and that i need to upgrade sth in my motherboard to install the new ones).

Can someone please enlighten me? I also dont have a good amount of money, only 70 Euro(If you take my mothers crap financial conditions this is big).

We need more information before anyone can advise you on a better processor. We know nothing about your system. Post your DxDiag log and maybe a solution can be found. Here's how:

DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. Go to the "Start" button and in that menu choose "Run Program" option ("Run..." in Vista IIRC). In the pop-up field type "dxdiag" and press enter. This is the DirectX test program - let it finish the test. After the test is finished choose the button toward the bottom labeled "Save All Information..." and save it to your desktop. Next open up this forum and post the results by copying and pasting directly to the forum. Please don't post attachments as they take up more space and time - just copy and paste. Please post ALL info and if you can please wrap it in a spoiler tag to minimize page size.

Considering the age of your system and the fact that you're limited to socket LGA 775 this E8600 might be your best bet. Hopefully someone else will come along and prove me wrong.

How do you plan to install it? Do you know how to do it yourself or are you planning to have your friend install it for you? It's not difficult but it can be easily screwed up if you don't know how. Good luck!

EDIT: I have no idea how much these are selling for in Europe but this is outside your stated price range. It's going to be difficult to find something better for you with that budget. Sorry.

I just need a Processor strong enough to stream my Games (League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth) without lag.

Do i really need to upgrade my socket to get better processors?

Yes, but upgrading isn't the correct term, you'd need to replace your motherboard to get a socket that will take newer chips as the socket cannot be replaced on a motherboard.

Q6600 or Q8300 quadcores

you can get more life out of your system IF the motherboard supports quads but in all honesty investing in such and old platform really is a waste since socket 775 quadcores are expesnive still in retail even though they are EOL and no longer produced, Intels prices are artificially inflated on older hardware.

examples when gaming
Q9550 vs I5 750 vs I5 2500k all these CPUS are different sockets

socket 775 socket 1156 and the 2500k is socket 1155 they are all the same price as well but the 2500k is 50% faster then the 9650 and still 20% faster then the 750, in terms of spending money to upgrade the older platforms dont make alot of sense, but i suppose if you need to more cpu power then upload the CPU-Z screenshots ive asked for and i can cross reference if your motherboard supports quads and if it does make sure you have the right BIOS to support said cpus

now if your trying to STREAM a game IE play the game and stream it for others to watch, thats not so much CPU, thats Internet speed namely UPLOAD speed

The answer is no - not for those games. Your system requirements seem to meet recommended levels.

Your problem is internet bandwidth and not a CPU issue. Do you know what download and upload speeds you're getting? Are you on Cable, DSL, Wi-Fi or (God forbid) dial-up?

My Upload speed is 100 KB/sec and my max download is 1.6 MB/sec

Upload speed sucks in Greece and i have no idea how to get better Upload speed, if you have any idea please tell me.

But one question isnt clear to me yet, do i have to upgrade that whatever thing to get better Processors? (i3 or something)

To get better upload you will have to move to a better internet package.

To move to an i3 you would need to replace the motherboard, processor and probably the RAM all at once. This will cost far more than the 70 euro that you have.

Honestly - in Greece I have no clue. Since both games mentioned are MMORPGs you'll need to have a better upload speed to reduce lag. Even though your download speed is listed at 1.6 Mbs/s that doesn't mean you're getting all of that. But that isn't as important as upload speed as you have enough download as advertized.

You'll have to switch to a provider that allows for a higher upload speed - that's probably what is causing lag in your games. That is something you might have to discuss with your parents. I'm not sure how it works in Greece but that may mean upgrading your existing plan or looking for another that allows for faster uploads. It might also be more expensive so the family may not want to change the plan. Good luck!

Basically whoever you pay for your internet you need to talk to about getting better internet. It's going to cost more than 70 Euros though.

I currently have ConnX rated at 24Mbps but I get like 12Mbps.

24 I think is the max here in Greece I think.

Most ISPs dont give a damn about upload speed, at least here in the US. My cable provider finally got off its butt and rolled out much faster cable into my area so ill be getting 30mbps down and 5mbps up.

I snooped around the website of all the ISPs of Greece (except two that wouldnt translate in google chrome) and all the ones i saw seemed to be crappy DSL with the same max speeds of 24mbps down and 1mbps up, so unless you want to leave the country it seems like your stuck with those speeds

It's supposed to be 30/15, iirc. You'll never use more than like, 5/2 anyways.
