What is the first faction you're going to try in RTRVII and why? (Let's get this mutha goin')

Where's the hype??

I'm going to try the Illyrians (Kingdom of Ardiaei) as my first AAR ever was actually on a game of RTR 6 Illyrians - and it got me hooked up with TWCenter. So to honour the past... The Illyrian roster also appeals to me like no other (light spearmen/hoplites/inf with good javelins? barbarism coupled with western styles? yay!). If only they weren't such a hard faction to play in RTR6... My only hope of surviving in all the playthroughs was an round 1 - alliance with greece and thrace, raping macedon from the start. Sometimes it would work - sometimes it wouldn't. All tries at an alliance with macedon and concentrating on other enemies were doomed from the start coz in time the black death was prone to come crawling towards Scodra or the plains...

Let's see how they will cope in VII, squeezed in between 3-4 factions!

I'm going to play the Spartans first. I've always wanted a larger campaign map where there is at least one of the Greek City States by themselves. After that maybe one of the new factions to keep it interesting.

I myself will go back to one of the Celtic factions, which I loved in the beta but haven't played since quite a few months. Trust me: the Celts in RTRVII should be played at least once by everyone.

I guess I'll continue my Roman campaign. It's up and running for like three weeks now, and I've never had such an enjoyable experience

I must agree with Bull, though, that you should try the Celts at least once. It certainly is a cool sight to see your masses of barbarians clash and unify the known world under a different banner than the usual red one

In a mod aimed at realism and in depth gameplay Celts MUST be fun. Because they kicked major ass.

To be honest I'm glad someone noticed. Though, I must really thank the germans. If not for them, the Helvetii would not have been on the move and Rome would not have conquered all of Gaul.

... On the other hand Aetolia sounds like another great challenge

I think I'll try Attalids first, build cultural and economic power. First I will conquer western Anatolia, then capture Byzantion and secure straits of Bosphorus and Dardanells.
After that I will capture other important cities/towns around Greece and Mediterranean and build a flourishing trading faction.

If I'm not going to try Attalids first, I might try some other Hellenic faction, maybe Antigonids, Acheans, Aetolians or Sparta. There is so much to choose from!

If you want a challenge try playing as Rome with the new Leadership System active (switchable via the Launcher), it adds an incredible amount of immersion if you're into the role-playing side of things.

We are trialling it at the moment, so it's only available playing as Rome. If successful, and depending on feedback, we may extend it to all the factions.

Carthage, totally. The rebalanced use of the religions system, plus less annoying regions to conquer will finally let me inch my way up the Italian peninsula

(I failed horribly in my FoE campaign, due to the reasons I mentioned before)

Mmm, probably a nice Greek faction that makes lots of cash. I had an amazing time in FOE but my economical skills are downright awful.
