Playing RTW without the console

Well, this is pretty stupid, but like everyone here knows I know quite a bit about the console. And well, as a matter of fact, I never finish a game without using cheats. It is not like it is too hard for me, but I am just too lazy to play this battle and use auto_win, and for that battle too, I always make process_cq Rome before I attack it etc etc ...

Anyone got a tip how I could restrain myself from using the console?

Go to your options, controls, find open console or Rome shell (whatever it's called) and set the key to open it as backspace this should clear it and make it so you can't open it unless you allocate it a key(e.g. Q on your keyboard). For each Mod you have you will have to do the same thing

Well, it is more of a moralic problem - Knowing myself I would simply change it back a few hours later.

I'm not an expert on the script, but if its the same as in medieval 2 total war there should be a spot in the scrip that would say something like this:

Console: enabled

so you need to change it to:

Console: disabled

On a serious note, i think you can find it in the preference file, if not their then i don't think you can disable it unless you were to use modification to disable it

Thats for the hotseat camp. part in M2TW, you could try adding the line (disable_console = true) under misc but i don't know if it works then or if it works in rtw at all. Never use console game is too easy as it is.

Well, if I finish all buildings in an AI settlement it doesn´t make my game easier. Or finish a battle with auto_win wich I would have won nonetheless if I played it.

here's an idea, everytime you cheat you should slapp yourself in the face

1) because you deserve it

and

2) because after a while you'll think like this "is it really worth cheating?" as you know it will hurt if you do

I can´t slap myself in the face that it hurts. Must be some kind of instinctive defense mechanism. They suck.

Alternatively, you could also just cheat and play the game. If you like the game without having to fight every tedious battle, then sure cheat! You won't get thrown into prison for cheating in a singleplayer game

The first one ever to advise to cheat! But still, once completeling a campaign without cheating would be nice. Maybe I should make an AAR. This sure would force me not to cheat.
