Default The "race card" and how not to play it...

    The Story
McKinney, a Democrat Rep from suburban Atlanta, didn't stop at an officer's request last week, then turned around and hit him after he reached out and grabbed her.
There is a metal detector but Reps can choose not to go through (and avoid the queue), providing that they are recognised by the Capitol police-one of the signs is to wear their special pin. Now, McKinney was not instantly recognised, she was not wearing her pin and hat a dramatic haircut change.

    The Aftermath
McKinney went out on a limb to present this as a racial profiling case, and to accuse Capitol police of racism. All that because she considers herself too important to be stopped. In a CNN interview which I suggest you to see with a squeezable rubber ball in your hands (http://us.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/04/0...le/index.html), she evaded to answer any question about what happened giving replies as:

"I'll tell you what happened, in fact, over 250 black police officers have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Capitol Police Department."
(there are infact two lawsuits for racial profiling, dating to 2001)

Is is not only her arrogance that gets me, it is the blatant disregard for common sense, and the disgraceful use of the race card.

The only thing she has on her side is that she was scorned by Tom Delay:

"Cynthia McKinney is a racist," DeLay told Fox News Channel, according to The Associated Press. "She has a long history of racism. Everything is racism with her. This is incredible arrogance that sometimes hits these members of Congress but especially Cynthia McKinney."
For a moment there, I almost liked Delay...

Pretty pitiful. I've heard worse in a Farrakhan speech, though.

It's kinda sad...politicians almost always sound better when they're not running for reelection and have nothing to worry about as far as consequences go.

Not like they can demand his retirement or eresignation in any meaningful way.

Everyone nowadays is using the race card. Its funny how racist black people can be but since their black no one cares. People think blacks can't be racist because they were slaves 150 years ago.

    Rep. McKinney is a dumba$$.

It probably has some to do with the fact that their racism always involves calling *you* racist first.

youre wrong to think that "Its okay" for black people to be racist, youre wrong to think that nobody cares. Stupid people need to be told to shut the hell up, regardless of what their race is. White people just need to practice more unity in racial situations like this. And I'm not talking about "WHITE POWER!" unity, either.

But is she? Or she understood that the only way to salvage her carrier from an idiotic mistake was to play it exactly this way? Think that she could apologise to the officer and the whole thing would die in 1 news cycle. Instead she (thinks that she)went for the jugular and turn the affair into another case of urban black martyrdome.

well if she thinks that, then she really is bat**** crazy.

A policeman tried to stop her at a security checkpoint and she tried to stab him (granted it was only with a cellphone or something not harmful....but I bet it still wealy wealy hurt ). Doesn't really sound like she was getting hosed down by white police in front of the capitol

This thread reminds me of my senior year in high school. I have a really good friend who I used to drive home from school. One day my teacher decided to be a jerk and give my whole class detention so my friend had to wait for me to get out. When I was walking into the classroom to wait the detention out, my friend just walks up to my teacher and slaps his keys out of his hands in a playful manner (he had him the previous year), but still enough that he should have got in trouble. I mean, he just walked up to him and slapped the keys out of his hands! Anyway, he got off scot-free and we joked afterwards that its because he's black. So I drew him up a "race card" out of an index card. It had a certain amount of points on it that could be used to get out of different situations. It had 100 total points on it for that year and getting out of detention cost 5, skipping class was worth 10, etc. Anyways, the next time a teacher threatened him with detention he literally "played the race card." Luckily, that teacher had a good sense of humor, but he ended up using it several times that year to get out of trouble. Had most of my teachers in hysterics.
