Default Farming? Give me a BREAK already!!!

Okay so I'm playing Eriador...small population as it is, I can accept that. But then my fortresses--Amon Sul and Fornost! I bring their ag all the way up to communal farming, and I watch their population growth slow and slow and slow...to zero. Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I read the designer's notes that the agriculture had been messed with but this is utter idiocy. What the heck??? Amon Sul and Fornost never grow into castles? I checked out the cheats for the game to add population, but sorry, my keyboard won't accept the little "hat" over "Sul" for Amon Sul. What do you have to do to get your castles to grow in this latest mod????

Get a hell of a guvernor for the castles (Aragorn for example) or just copy paste this into the consol: Sûl

Sell those castles to someone and buy them back later.

All you have to do is select the name of the settlement in the settlement interface and delete the name, or delete it all the way to Amon. edit population and then retype Amon Sul as the name of the town. its the only way to cheat multi named cities. but you won't get the little "hats" over the U after wards. small price to pay.

Actually it isn't. The names the engine uses for them (which you need to use in the console), along with the names you see, can be found in \Third_Age\data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt.

I agree. Farming/trade needs a bit of a tweak for 3.0; settlements stagnate far too easily.

    Someone makes this tweak?

just double click on Amon Sûl and then click on the name at the top of the scroll or whatever and you can rename it to add_population or w/e. I suggest that you should add_population -w/e number so that you will not get a lot of unrest. also û = Alt 150

just double click on the settlement in game and when the scroll pops up just click on the settlement name at the top and you change the name to anything you want, so for EX: you can rename it to "o" so Amon Sûl will be changed to o. then you can simply type add_population o 4000 and add the castle into the building queue and then add_population o -4000 to reduce the unrest in the town/castle.
And then you can rename the town to its original name!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like this. (could be wrong though) You have to use the name the engine uses as JorisofHolland said.

I think the fact that you need a certain level of population to upgrade your castle settlements, especially given the ridiculous population requirements, is pretty absurd. Upgrading castles should take longer and cost more, but shouldn't be population based.

Just rename the wooden castle When the settlement thing is open click on the name at the top and rename it, then name it back to Amon Sul with the little 'hat'. You can make that symbol by holding down alt on your keyboard and typing a combo of numbers on your num-pad. Not sure what combo gets it but just google something like: 'alt numpad keyboard commands' and you should find it to make the symbol.

This entire thread just indicates how ridiculous the castle-fortress-citadel growth pattern is in this game. If you want to diminish their economic value, ok...just set the population growth levels lower. There's no reason to need require such a large population for upgrades, and one shouldn't be forced to simply park one's best generals on permanent garrison duty.

And even if you do, it's still slow as .

I get more mileage out of rushing enemy castles (which get a growth bonus) than developing my own. I've finished 4 campaigns so far (Rhun, Isengard, Eriador/Arnor, OOG) and played for a good while in 3-4 others and I've never got to fully upgrade a castle that I've owned from the start all the way (from wooden castle to fortress?).
