Default Russian infantry unit morale question

Every time when i send them at my enemy( i take 5 berdiche and 5 dismounted boyar sons,so they are not outnumbered too much) they lose about 10 units and rout -.- and my enemy passes to my cav and archers pretty easily :S..What can i do for them?

    Execute the cowards who routed.

Are you using a general with this army? If not, the captain could be getting killed in the initial charge and the shock causing all your troops to rout. If you are using a general, try moving him closer to the battle line. Distance affects how much he boosts morale.

Are you recieving the charge completely stationary or counter charging? If you counter charge, you get far less casualties from the initial clash and inflict more on your enemy. Both help morale.

Lastly, try moving the berdiche's around one side in a big flanking maouever. They are best on the charge IIRC, even more so against a stationary opponent. Have your cav doing a similar movement to try and rear charge them just after they make contact with your infantry.

Well, no detail has been provided of the opposition's force.

One thing though, is that Berdisches are nearly useless in unmodded vanilla when facing dismounted knights, regardless of charging or not. This is because they are not elite in the first place, and secondly, they carry a 2h axe (which has the most bugged and ineffectual attack animation in vanilla, even worse than 2h sword). For better Berdisches, play the Kingdoms' Teutonic campaign.

If the enemy general has high dread your troops morale is a lot lower and they will rout a lot faster.
