Faction Preview: Häme

[Úlfhéðinn]

Häme it seems has never been a place for peace, feuds between the warlike Tavastians and their neighbours the Finns, and raids from the Vikings have caused almost undisturbed war, keeping Tavastia's inhabitants ever vigilant. The Tavastians or Jems as they became known by the Novgorodians, live constantly prepared to defend their homeland, or attack another. Hämes landscape is dotted by hillforts serving as defense against Viking raids or Finnish warriors on the march.


Strengths
Mobile and tactical flexible infantry

Weaknesses
Completely lacking in heavy armor made of metal

Units

Nuorukaiset (youths)

Youngest men of the tribe fight as mobile skirmishers. They are better in close combat than most skirmishers, but they cannot hold heavier units for long.

Tavastian archers are skilled missile troops. They are also quite good in close combat, but should not be committed into battle against heavier units.

In Häme, swords were rare and expensive. Consequently, only the best and the richest could acquire them. These are such men, and they fight proudly for their tribe and their fatherland.

So after a quick regrouping the WotN crew shoots for some effective work and features an updated preview of the Häme faction with a couple of new and improved units by Absinthia.

As a Finn and an inhabitant of Häme I find this both funny and interesting. Great work though, not as unrealistic as one might expect!

hi just some suggestions for units

1) i think that everyy tribe would create some kind of spearmen units against cavalry

2) some heavy infantry - i think its logical to have some heavier infantry cos every chieftan want to have best armor and probably he would to have also some band of companions as we can see it in early germanic society and aslo in slavic society so i dont see reason why this type of organisation couldnt be used in these tribes too. ( i know finns arent germanic or slavic people, but these two ethnical groups were they neighbours)

yes the Finns have a full roster, though perhaps not as extensive as other cultures.

I think they are a bit too well armed and clothed. I think all the clothes were white or gray at start they were made as colour cause they did not have any expensive dyes to color them except the very rich chieftains. Helmets and armour and swords were also extremely rare. I actually like the Nuorukaiset unit for the out look they are quite near what the most of the finnish troops might have looked at that time.

+ I think you should name one finnish unit as "Vainolaiset" meaning "those who hunt you"
