Welcome to Brittania. It is the year 410 CE, and the Roman legions have departed. Now a noble named Ambrosius has taken the throne and the name of Vortigern, installed his sons as princes, and declared a Roman Kingdom of Brittania.
However, this nascent Kingdom faces two serious threats. As the new state is born, it is threatened by a Saxon army that has landed in the east. The people of Brittania have seen many raids by the Saxons, but this army was the largest they had ever seen, and it seemed they came to conquer as well as raid.
To the north, less urgently but every bit as dangerous, a Confederacy of Picitsh tribes has risen. This means that a united front of Picts could easily march south and attack northern Brittania.
Vortigern sits in his palace, and ponders how to save his new realm...
