Default OT: Would you want to read a prequel series?

If Martin would actually do like he has said and timely finish Asoiaf, I'm thinking doing a prequel series would be an awesome next step.

Given he may not want anything to do with the thing anymore but I would love to read maybe a trilogy or something on the War of the Usurper. Even though we know what happens in the end, I'd love reading all the different pov's of how exactly everything went down.

Am I the only one that would enjoy this? Would another era of Westeros be desired? Discuss!

He already has written a prequel story (Tales of Dunk and Egg)

Like the guy above said, there's already a prequel series and it's quite good.

I think War of Usurper is so much fine because it belongs to offscreen sphere. Hints and memories of aSoIaF are such great because each of them is brick with them we could build history of that war. And if we get any new trilogy... everything would be spoon-feed (I'm hope this idiom is correct).

I'd rather read about the conquest of Westeros or about Valyrian history with their magic and dragons and eventual doom...

I'd like to see in a prequel series maybe the Long Night, or maybe the Doom, or even better, Aegons Conquest!

Yeah me too, I'd like to see even if just a small story, or small tale about the Long Night or the Doom, or the Valyrian expansion.. it could even be in Asoiaf itself, say, Sam finds some book at the citadel and then we are presented with a small story narrating with more detail the happenings of this or that event.

Or, because of the official submod, Robert's Rebellion? Could be just one book with POVs from Rhaegar, Ned, Catelyn, Jon Arryn, Jaime, who knows! But I was kind of disappointed that in the show they didn't show the rebellion. Or maybe the adventures of Dolorous Edd.

i have only read the 4 first books and i won't be reading anymore unless he finishes the series...

i regard his "essos" chapters to be weak...even though i like most of danny's POVs ,i found myself bored and distracted from the main story pretty often..
the whole concept started as a "low fantasy -gritty realistic" world...westeros and the main houses "playing the game of thrones" ...

essos is it's counterpart ,where magic is still in the air ,in a certain way...no problem with that...
BUT whenever he tried to give depth and length to the facts in essos he mostly wrote some really bad and drawn out backstories

i kinna got "annoyed" with the "magic boost" the series got from a point and on and from what seems to be on the way...
"wniter is coming" but instead of that i read some thousands of pages to start getting clichč ressurections and dragons...

-unsullied and the whole "after-drogo danny east-quest"...boring with some really ridiculous and bad moments
-the guys that drank that blue wine...mmm...yeah so ? felt like he was just trying to fill in some pages...
-faceless men origins ...not as bad as the unsullied but still bad..

please don't get this wrong...i love his books ,the world and characters he created , but what i'm trying to say is that if he ever ,finishes the "song of ice and fire"
(remember that ,initially , he set out for a trilogy and now he seems to have lost control of it) i wouldn't want to read anything set on essos ever again..
(with only exception a khal drogo-prequel... origins and rise to power)

so to answer the question ,if he ever writes anything else set on the same world i would love to read about "war of the usurper" ...even though as another fellow user stated before
it would kinna spoil the "legendary aura" this period has...

i think the better thing would be a short (one ,tops two books) "parallel story" of a new- not major character set in that period...kinna like a "historical novel" set in westeros during the war of the usurper...some things should be better left alone...

    ps..
these are just my personal views..not interested on further discussing them or start flame wars
some people ,on the internet can get really strange when you say anything else than just praising their favourite writer...

Maybe a short story about Petyr's adventures being friendzoned by Catelyn?
