    Default SPQR 8 Problem

Im having problems loading up my SPQR Mod, I have moved all downloaded files to the Rome Program files, and my Vanilla is patched to 1.5. I load it up and it loads up some sort of battle screen for a split second and crashes to the desktop, no error message, What Am i doing wrong?

I don't know what's wrong. Could be 'program files' sub-directory issue or perhaps you may have some missing/extra files.

    I recommend starting from scratch.

Take a clean copy of RTW installation (patched to v.1.5) and copy&paste it to C:\SPQR.
Then double click on SPQR 8.0 installer, and give the path as C:\SPQR. Let it install over the clean copy. This should work. It always works for me.

NOTE: If it still does not work after doing all the above, then you can start updating your graphics card drivers, operating system critical updates, motherboard drivers etc. << Actually, you should do these in any case...

You need to install it to right folder.

    D:\SPQRV8\Activision\Rome - Total War

The bold part is important as every copy will have that folder. I just installed the game to my D drive in a separate folder called SPQRV8. Activision is one of the older copies of the game but every version ends with the folder Rome - Total War.

Pathname to the directory, and what the name of the directory is, is irrelevant because Rome Total War is a working directory based application. Everything it requires (stock game files), is needed to be UNDER its 'working directory' and that is the only requirement.

In fact, you do not have to have a 'directory' at all. Since drive root is a valid location to store file and folders, if you cut/copy all the file and folders from 'rome total war stock game patched to v.1.5' and paste them to C:\ drive root (on XP) you'll see it will still work without a parent directory at all. Then you can patch it to be SPQR MOD rather than the stock game.

My game is on "d:\data\software\games\SPQR" and it, of course, works fantastic.

Once again, the only requirement is, to have the required file and folders which is a patched (v.1.5) copy of 'Rome: Total War' game in some place and then install the game on to that some place.

If you have the required file and folders under "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome Total War", then you need to give this path to SPQR installer.
If you have the required file and folders under "D:\SPQRV8\Activision\Rome - Total War", then you need to give this path to SPQR installer.
    ...and so on.

Therefore, my recommendation above is keeping it simple and installing SPQR mod straight to "C:\SPQR". (see the post above for exact steps)
