Default Medieval 2: my experience of the game

    Hey,

played couple of years empire and now bit of shogun. But last week i found this mod so i reinstalled my medieval 2 kingdoms... and installed stainless steel

    I started playing last night...

Here are some things i noticed (while playing the scotish)

    1. Had to walk 3 turns to reach ireland(including boat trip) so movement is really limited...
    2. Sieges are kinda lame if ur used to empire or shogun... Dont know why exaclty but units move so slow... It was taking eternity...
    3. my units look fat... my horses look like pony's... big body smal legs (myabe i should try the widescreen mode (i have 1920-1080) but when i did widescreen in campaign i had to click 2cm next to city to select it... very strange

Other people have the same feeling?

Make sure your game resolution is set to the same as your desktop resolution.

also, your horses look like ponies more than Arabian full bloods because in the Middle Ages these were the horses being used. Sturdy, small, strong, and capable of carrying a full armoured knight ....

In widescreen they look more like horses (real horses) whitout the widescreen they looked like pony's or like potbellied pig

So i use widescreen now.. but in campaign map (on my own resolution) in widescreen mode i have to click next to a unit to select it... (really strange..)

desktop resolution is 1920-1080. i use battle and campaign resolution 1920-1080.

When i select unit in battle i have to click on it... so there its ok... but in campaign map i have to click next tot the units (near the borders of my screen the effect is even bigger) just like the campaign map is stretched.

I stopped playing empire and shogun because siege there was awful, all you needed to do is just climb over the wall (if i can call it wall) and the city fall to your hands.

About speed, I think its great. I cant imagine knights would run as fast as superman.

On the other side this also helps you as you will have time to intercept attacks - no-wam-bam-thank-ya-kind-sir instant attacks. Also know that siege equipment reduces your army speed severely. Long term planning is key, if you want speed go island and coastal settlement hopping with ships (but this will take some of the challenge out of the game for you).

You will find this funny but I hate how fast those shogun units are. Damn arcade setting if you ask me, fully armored guys just can't jog around like that If you want fast hit the 2x or 6x setting

OK, i will give it a try...
Still struggling with the fact that i cant use arrow keys on hud or a button (like in empire/shogun) to move my unit forward...

In Shogun its much easier to use mouse to control units though... not sure why you would ever use keyboard. It is much easier to use keyboard to scroll and mouse to control units.

Movement is limited in empire to, but you have to remember empire covers most of the world, movement is limited only for gameplay purposes,

Sieges are insanely fun, i love empire, but its sieges suck in this youve better options and there more fun,

I like attacking towns and cities in Empire and Napoleon but sieges of forts seem ridiculous. The mechanics start to break down quite heavily. The biggest problem is full armies inhabit small forts and castles. It would be much more interesting if max garrisons were limited to 5 units for smaller sizes and going up to only 10 units with larger sizes but much better towers etc.

Shogun sieges are a bit better but the wide open spaces are a bit weird. Perhaps because it takes so long to get to the end castles I rarely ever see them. Shogun 2 campaigns are so much shorter.
