Cyrillic Script in Stainless Steel 6.4 (brought over from CoW?)

Thread: Cyrillic Script in Stainless Steel 6.4 (brought over from CoW?)

I have Call of Warhammer installed. The initial install had Russian script in the interface. This was fixed with the various patch that led to 4.4.

I just installed Stainless Steel 6.4. It is in the same general Medieval War folder (though in the mods folder each are distinct). The Stainless Steel game seems to run fine, but the interface has Cyrillic scypt for the year and many other interface features. Is this from some influence/interaction the the earlier installed CoW?

    Suggestions?

    Thanks

Probably an install in the root folder of med2. Check med2\data\text if there are some files that contain Cyrillic lettering. (there shouldn't really be ANY files there, but I don't know if you installed another mod that wasn't mod foldered).

This is a follow up to your relpy. I did check in the text file you noted and found a few files with Cyrillic. The Call of Warhammer changes should all be in their own folder (in the Mod folder) I assume. If I copied the Mod folder (with Call of Warhammer, Stainless Steel, Third Age mods) to a separate location and reinstalled Medieval Kingdoms again (so files like the Battle_Event_Subtitles, Diplomacy_Speech, Export_Advice files etc. ) were once again in English and then replace the mod folder with the one containing all the mods from the original install, it should fix the issue? What do you think?

That will give you a clean install of the game. If you have enough spare place on your drive, I would suggest to copy the original installation. In case something goes wrong or an old mod installs into your main folder, all you have to do is delete the folder and then copy from your back up.
Mods that depend on custom files that were installed into the main folder will most likely have problems.

But I would think a simple delete of the data\text folder in the main game will do. (Make a back up just in case)

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a go.

Question: I moved the whole game to my desktop with the intention of then reinstalling the game where the original had been and then switching the corrupted Cyrillic files with the new clean versions. When I put the game disk in to install the game, it doesn't give an install option. I only have an uninstall option. I assumed the game being totally out of the C Drive would allow me to install a second version. What should I do to to install another version? In other words, how can I make the computer think there is no current version, so I can install a second clean one? Thanks

Is there no way to install a second version of kingdoms to then replace the corrupted files?

You cannot install a second copy of the game - the registry entries will not permit it. Simply copy the Medieval II Total War folder somewhere else.
