    Default Pirate Nation!

    So i am back to Medieval 2 (Tryng to cool down my Oblivion addiction) and i am looking forwards to play a pirate nation.Now i think i should get all the islands,and/or Scandinavia.And then just pillage landrubbers,and try to influence power scales of europe.But i am confused who should i play,while England got advantage of ablity to quickly get the largest island,but any Catholic faction have a disadvantage of needing to bribe a pope all the time,i would love to to not care about any authority.On the other hand other factions dont have much of island ownings, and i dnot know who to chose,can anyone help me with choice?

    Marauding Norse Vikings might be in character? > Though I think their age was coming to an end around the time the early campaign starts.

    Sicily might also be a sound choice given that their location easily lets them influence Catholic Europe and they start with the biggest Island in the Mediterranean.

    Well i dont really want to play catholics.. but not much of a choice i guess,how hard is to keep pope satisfied by giving him cash,and how hard can be consequinces of Excomunication,counting probably there will be noone to attack my lands(as i plan to have zero provinces accesed from land +/- scandinavia)

    Well I imagine a pirate nation would have to live with not going to heaven.

    An option might be a migration as either Lithuania or the Cumans.

    I tought of lithuanians,but counting i am from lithuania my self,so know theyr history good,they loved woods way to much to become island faction lol

    I was also going to suggest Lithuania and moving to Ireland and spreading from there.

    Sicily is accessible by land.

    However, if you're a pirate, does it matter if you get excommunicated? It will only add to the character of your nation.

    Fatimids make great pirates. Move to Tunis and give the rest of your lands to K-Shah or Cumans or something. Late era is much better as you will have access to more varieties of ships and the late infantry units.

    The Novgorod Republic if you have Battle for the Baltics 2.Their skins are awesome with a eastern look yet it's a solid faction in infantry with good cavalry,archers and horse archers.Your troops don't look like the western ones yet you can match them and you are Orhtodox so show the finger to the Pope.

    I'd say the Scilians (all you really need to do to keep the pope on side is recruit loads of priests so you'll have many cardinals and be able to rig the papal elections, that and participate in any and all crusades with gusto) because of their really good starting position. But if you're that set against playing a catholic faction then go for the moors, keep relations with the fatmids good just in case (they'll most likely be dealing with issues in the holy land in any case) and stop the Spanish, Portugese or the Aragonese attacking you in North Africa (or give it up if you really want) and wham! ustopable hordes of maurading arabian pirates!

    The mod Thera had a faction called the League of Privateers. They are authentic pirates. Its a good mod check it out!

    This is a weird one

    Venice you'll always have a naval start around Greece Area. You could pack up bags on the continent self off Ragusa, Venice etc and create a new Island nation centred on Crete. Benefit of this is that you don't have to worry about the pope due to there being Orthodox and Muslim enemies to battle with / pillage. Just launch an occasional raiding party, pop around to the exposed Fatmid cities and exterminate the crap out of them - sell off/ destroy the remaining buildings and walk away laughing to some pirate joke.

    And of course you can pop round to Crusader states in cyprus and get Nicosia and to Sicily and grab a few settlements and stop when the pope intervenes and start warring with Muslims again to get papal fervour.

    Hmm i see alots of good choices,btw i am not planing on going full pirating rampage like war vs everyone,but to keep a few of weak allies and help them out till they get strong,and sea trade with as much factions as i will be able to.

    Btw. Forgot to type an ? here

    I might try one as the Byzantines, keeping only Constantinople and any islands I can lay my hands on .... guaranteed constant siege of the capital but siphonatores, spartiatoi and varangians should be able to hold it ...

    Byzantine is interesting choice counting i want to have zero provinces which are connected to land,but i was thinking about an idea of of securing Constantinoples independance by leaving it to rebel and then destroyng anything that tryes to conquer it,this would be pretty interesting.

    Whichever faction you decide to go with make sure you get the theives and assassin's guild HQ too. Spies would be a very good idea to make sure you are in and out of a city in one turn when you go to pillage

    The Romans/Byzantines seems like a bad idea. They have too much history and the army is too professional. I still think either Norway or Sicily - Norwegian FM's start with bonus dread points, and you all Sicilian ships move faster too because of the "Rex Sicilia" trait that the FL gets (I think that's what it's called?).

    Open up a Crusader State campaign grab some islands and make all your army infantry mariners eeeey?

    Then shove all your gens in boats until they all get scurvy - arrrrr

    Do you plan on playing like a campaign of terror, executing and sacking? I've tried that before with Denmark--pretty easy pick, really, since they're vikings--except it got old fast. It's more fun developing than destroying.
